Sir Edmond Halley’s Restaurant & Freehouse will pour pints once more.
The new owners of the longtime Charlotte pub say they will resume operations by the end of November.
The menu will remain the same. And so will the location — a downstairs hideaway at Park Road Shopping Center, says Helen White, who is reopening Sir Ed’s with Jeff Roberts and Sven Deal.
Deal was one of the original owners of Sir Ed’s when it launched in late 1995 as a partnership with Tobin McAfee and Alex Andrews. White and Roberts are both former employees.
Sir Ed’s closed its doors after selling out all its beer and liquor on July 21.
On Monday, White and Roberts were at work cleaning up the restaurant. Its walls were freshly painted and new carpeting was on the way.
Roberts says the Brit pub will be “brighter, fresher” and also will feature a return to its roots.
“We’re going back to the original concept of what it should have been,” Roberts says of Sir Ed’s.
Sir Ed’s was widely acclaimed during the late 1990s for its eclectic English fare. Its most renowned menu item: ostrich meatloaf.

One less strip-mall bar in Charlotte. What a shame.

To mark the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the first successful ascent of Everest, the Nepalese Government conferred honorary citizenship upon Sir Edmund at a special Golden Jubilee celebration in the capital, Kathmandu. He is the first foreign national to receive such an honour from the Nepalese.

AWESOME! That makes me want to buy a corporate gift for someone.

Does anybody here know where I can buy good quality corporate gifts?
