    **SPOILERS** **SPOILERS** **SPOILERS**

The three storylines are based on three different miniseries of the original Sin City comic books: "The Big Fat Kill," "That Yellow Bastard," and the self-titled "Sin City."

Detective Hartigan (Bruce Willis) stars in the "That Yellow Bastard" storyline, which is split into two parts... one at the start of the movie, the other at the end. He saves the life of Nancy (Jessica Alba) when she's still a little girl, maiming the spoiled-brat son of a powerful politician in the process.

Next up is the "Sin City" storyline, where Marv (the big ugly strong guy played by Mickey Rourke), sets out to avenge the death of Goldie. He frequents a bar where Nancy, having grown up in every way, is now a stripper. Shelly (Brittany Murphy), Dwight's girlfriend, also works there as a waitress. The trail leads Marv to Cardial Roark, the most powerful man in Sin City, and the real killer... the perverted Kevin (Elijah Wood). He kills them both, and gets the electric chair as a result.

"The Big Fat Kill" storyline follows. Shelly the waitress's abusive ex-boyfriend Jackie Boy (Benicio Del Toro) drops by her apartment with his no-good drunken friends, not knowing her new boyfriend, Dwight (Clive Owen), is already inside. Dwight drives them off, then follows them to stop them from harming another woman elsewhere.

Jackie Boy enters Old Town, where the armed and dangerous prostitutes are the law. The pimps, the mob, even the cops don't interfere. Jackie Boy makes the wrong moves in Old Town and pays the price, with his life. Turns out Jackie Boy is a cop, and the rest of the storyline involves Dwight and the Old Town girls rushing to get rid of the evidence, thus keeping the delicate truce between the cops and the hookers.

The rest of the movie wraps up the "Yellow Bastard" storyline. Senator Roark, brother of the cardinal that Marv whacked, and his depraved son are the villians as Detective Hartigan gets of prison and must finish what he started to make sure that the beautiful Nancy is still safe.

Basically, the movie is an anthology that shares a common setting, where some of the characters know and cross paths with one another.

I thought the prostitute story line was just a rehasing of the first story. If that story was taken out, it would have been a lot better movie.

I'm gonna sound like a damn prude, but it was just stupid adolescent violence and sex and absolutely lacked any semblence of a soul. And I don't mean that in the goody goody way of the first American Pie (how it balanced out all the raunchiness). I like me some dark drama. This was dark. It was crazily violent and sexy. But it was not very dramatic. I just never cared very much and it felt really superficial. No soul.

I think they got lost in trying to recreate comic book story panels. I felt myself freezeframing certain shots that I was certain were that way. All structure and no... idunno.. feeling? genuine mood? anything that would make the audience engage?

I love Miller. I liked his work on Batman: the Dark Knight, which came out as I was giving up on comics as a teen. It roped me back in for a few more months. Jaded, over the hill Batman, falling into darkness. Very cool.

I absolutely loved the Elektra:Assasin series. I still have those somehwere in their little fancy baggies with the backing boards so they dont bend or crease. Moody, dark as hell, and very adult, human story, though very violent in a Tarantino kind of way (Miller had to be an influence on QT, too similar in style). It made me vomit to see what Hollywood turned that into. Soo bad.

Miller's actually in the movie as a bad guy.

Probably the only part where I was engaged was during Mickey Rourke's part (great job) - he was Marv, the big hulking tough guy. He was funny, brooding, and almost a character you wanted to buy into. He took more of a pounding than Baghdad during Shock & Awe and kept on ticking. That was a little ridiculous. And he had a mindless obsession based on a one night stand with a hooker. I know he was ugly and therefore unloved, but it was a little superficial. I couldn't buy in.

Make any sense? Anyway, sorry for prattling on.

PS - Carla Gugino is teh hawt (lesbian)!!

Frank Miller is a comics veteran. He wrote a legendary run for the Daredevil comic book and is the original creator of the character Elektra. He wrote the groundbreaking graphic novel "The Dark Knight Returns" for DC in addition to "Ronin" and many other works. He also wrote Robocop 2.

I hated this movie the moment I heard the first line and how it was delivered. I wanted to walk out. About a 1/2 hour in when they started showing those amazing naked chicks I loosened up a bit and left thinking it was decent.

Thanks Ecilam. I guess I did pretty much get the movie. I guess I was just disappointed because it wasn't that great I didn't think. I kept on waiting for something to happen that never did. :(
