Do ya'll think he deserves to have his number retired?

Right now he is currently #1 in blocks all time at Duke
He's #2 in Rebounds with about 100 to go to pass Gminski
He has 1719 points and has a good chance to be at about 1900 which would put him just inside the top 15
and he'll more than likely be two time national defensive player of the year
    And All-American.
I figure Redick is a no-brainer but will Shelden have his retired to. He's been steady and a rock down low.

I think so. He's been absolutely crucial this year as our perimeter defense has been lacking. He struggles with guys his size and above, but his timing for blocking shots is great, and he swallows boards. Team success may decide his fate, if dook wins a NC this year I'd say he's definite. If they fail to even make the FF, can you really retire two numbers from a team with only one FF appearance? I don't know.

FWIW if he were a Tar Heel and did the same things while at school, I'd want his number retired. Even though they don't actually "retire" them at UNC anymore. They just put their number and name in the rafters.

I think they still do retire numbers. Its just done under extremely strict criteria. Jamisons 33 was retired but Carter's 15 was not. I think its because Jamison won NPOY.

Yeah, aren't the numbers on the second row only highly honored and the back row is jersey numbers that are honored cause Joe Forte's number is up in the rafters. I think they retire the numbers at the UNC game this year. Historically they've always done it the last game of the player's senior year. I think Jason Williams' number was retired the year after he left which would've been his senior year. So I don't know if they'll take into how well Shelden plays in the ACC tournament or NCAA tournament

numbers shouldn't be retired unless the player leads his team to at least one national title.

    so the answer is, NO
