The Bucs signed Rob Johnson today and some one will be getting the axe soon. Odds are it's going to be King. Any one think we should go after him if he becomes available?

King would be a good back-up, but the Panthers need someone who has a little more vet status. I'd go for a Kent Grahm or Dave Brown type. Guys who are career back-ups, but have that experience you would expect from a starter. King, too, would fit that MO, but doesn't have the years on him yet.

    One word: YES.

I like Shaun King, he's kind of like a Dameyune Craig who can throw touchdowns.

Sure, he's not a multi-year veteran, but he is a smart guy, and a solid back up.

AND he's young enough that when Weinke retires, he'll still have 3-4 seasons left in his tank.

He's mobile, and he wouldn't be asked to win games, just preserve leads.

He led the bucks to the NFC Championship game. What has Kent Graham done recently, other than suck?

I don't think King would be a good fit on the Panthers. I think Fox would question his study habits and work ethics. It's just not there, IMO.

Besides that, Gruden has stated with Rob and Brad, King will alos make the competition for QB interesting.

The Bucs definately win the Flimsiest QB's award.

Really? I thought work ethic was one of King's stronger points.

My only question is arm strength, given the system we may employ. But he's a big consideration, considering his youth. If the money is the same, I'd go with King.

What I heard about King was that his poise was his strong suit. In the pocket, in the huddle, all of that, and a good general on the field. But the knock on him was he didn't do anything "extra" in the offseason after his rookie year in the play-offs. Even Keyshawn was calling him constantly going to dinner, going to his house, and trying to get extra practice out of him and drive, work on timing after practice, etc...nothing. Keyshawn welcomed Brad Johnson with open arms, something to the tune of "finally, a QB..."

  8. I thought one of the negatives for King was the size of his hands? I'd prefer him (easily) over Graham or Brown. While all those being considered might have the lable "journeyman", I think Graham parlayed every opportunity he's had into being a flop. Giants, Cards, Steelers and the Skins, at least. Large, immobile. When he couldn't beat out Stewart, he should have considered another career. But if people are going to throw money at you, I guess I'd continue to do the same job.

Both (Graham and Brown) have Giants ties - not sure what Fox thinks/thought of them, but I'm hopeful, that it's not much.

I never heard any real knocks on King otherthan his arm strength isn't spectacular. He does go through his progressions and posesses good insticts and awareness in the pocket.
I like the comparison to Craig, that's kind of how I have always viewed him. He would be an upgrade over Craig, but I don't know that Fox will look for that type of QB. We'll probably be looking for a non-WCO type drop back guy.
