Shaun Alexander predicts bright future for Crimson Tide football

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Despite NCAA-imposed probation, Alabama’s all-time leading rusher says the Crimson Tide football team will bounce back and return to it’s traditional position as one of the nation’s top programs.
‘‘It’s sad for the university right now, but we’ll be back on top soon,’’ Shaun Alexander, who rushed for 3,565 yards for Alabama from 1996 through 1999, told the Mobile Register. Alexander ran for more than a thousand yards for the Seattle Seahawks last season.
Alexander was in Mobile for a Wednesday night celebrity softball game he co-sponsored with Washington Redskins tackle Chris Samuels, also a former Alabama star. The game featured a team of former Alabama football players against a team made up of Mobile-area media members.
Placed on probation for recruiting violations, Alabama is banned from going to a bowl or playing in the Southeastern Conference championship game for the next two seasons and faces scholarship reductions. Alexander said he expects Alabama to snap back from the adversity.
‘‘What’s going on at Alabama is a sad thing, but as with everything Alabama always rises — that’s why we’re called the Tide,’’ he said. ‘‘Our lowest point is at the bottom and the next thing you know there’s a big tidal wave of action and we’re back on top.’’
Other former Alabama stars slated to take part in the game Wednesday night were Kenny Smith, Andrew Zow, David Palmer, Reggie Grimes, Kevin Lee, Prince Wembley, Fernando Bryant, Antonio Langham, Scott Hunter, Sam Shade, Kevin Lee and Roger Shultz.
Proceeds from the game benefit the Shaun Alexander Family Foundation and the Mobile BayBears’ Rookie League for inner-city youth. Alexander said helping needy families is his top priority.
‘‘It’s real exciting because there are a lot of families all over the country that just need a little help,’’ he said. ‘‘They just want to see success and know they can be a part of it someday.’’

It's too bad we are on probation. We should be pretty good this year.

Yeah, since they are cheaters you'd think they would have a better team. Oh well. Once the are off probation they'll be paying guys again.

Beard is a playmaker. That’s it on offense though. Who is going to QB, Watts?

A few guys on Alabama's D I wouldn't mind having. Moorehead, King, Jarret Johnson...Of course, Ellington and Alonzo Ephraim aren't bad along the OL and some say that Gerald Dixon isn't that terrible a DB. But while the fundamentals might be talented, they'll still have to be a lot sharper to make up for the lack of skill position talent.

All the measurables are there. Yet their team defense seems to melt vs. the stronger schools. Morehead seems to disappear in big games.

I don't get the right feeling about Morehead sometimes. I keep thinking he's a tackle by body and style of play, and obviously the size is there.

and yeah, you're right, I'm only looking at them as prospects :D bankroll tide!
