I'm sure he's been mentioned and I just missed it, but what about bringing him back via Free agency? He played last year for the veteran minimum on a 1 year deal. I might do Peete, Mathews, Fasani this year with the QB crop as good as it looks next year.

We’d have to draft a guy first day with that, IMO. Like Peete, he’s never been healthy through a year. He’s a backup. Probably has less arm, sad to say.

It’s good to know Fox is paying attention to QBs at the senior bowl. Palmer sounds like he’s putting on a clinic. Too bad Lefty is still recovering.

I definitely wouldn't be opposed to Matthews coming back. I think he'd be an improvement over Peete, but only marginally. I don't know that I'd want to settle for both of them here, but Shane might be a decent stopgap until we can acquire something closer to a blue-chip QB.

Interesting that there's been no contact to Peete's agent about a new contract. He's Weinke's agent, too.

Wonder if Winky's agent is pushing for an early extension? :D

Panthermills, Tom Condon (agent) said to reporters at the Senior Bowl that he'd not been contacted.

    Here's your link PM!

    LINK

One key player in the Panthers quarterback scenario said he hasn't heard a word from the team. That's agent Tom Condon, who represents quarterbacks Rodney Peete and Chris Weinke.

Although the Panthers have said they're interested in re-signing Peete before he becomes a free agent Feb. 28, Condon said he hasn't had any talks with the team. He said he's hopeful negotiations will start in the next few weeks.

I would not mind seeing Matthews here again. He would be a stable guy who does not make a lot of mistakes. He is more mobile and younger than Peete. He may not win many games for us but he wont lose many either. We could sign him as cheap as we could bring back Peete. Then we could keep Fasani and Weinkie as backups or drop Weinkie and draft a QB to groom. If we get a true impact running back that could work. If we were to sign Steven Davis or draft a running back high we would be ok.
