    From the King James:

The word in the NASB is "deny" as well. I've just been doing a word study on this at www.searchgodsword.org. The Greek word that is translated into "believe not" here can mean disbelief or distrust, which would seemingly be an antonym for the Greek word translated as "faithful" in the same line, reflecting the poetic style in which the passage is written.

The two commentaries I read about this passage assert that the phrase, "he abideth faithful; he cannot deny himself" is saying that regardless of what we do, God will always remain faithful to what He has promised. He will not change. Both commentaries specifically referenced Matthew 10:33...

One commentary also suggested that when the passage says "deny" in both the Timothy verses and in Matthew, it's referring to a denial in a final sense, or unwavering rejection. I didn't see that specifically mentioned in the word study, but it seems logical to me.

No, but I can reject my earthly father. It doesn't change my identity, but it will drastically change my relationship with him. Are you saying that maintaining a relationship with Christ is unimportant? If so, how can someone claim Christ as Lord if he or she ignores or rejects Him?

But what is 'stumbling'? Is it sin? Does it include outright rejection?

Are you not describing certain good works needed to keep your salvation. You believe you must do good works to keep your salvation?

wait a minute.... you're a divorced man or married to a divorced woman?

you don't "subscribe" to the doctrine that says divorce is wrong????

It's in Matthew, so you can't say the NT over-rules it.

    LOL! Amazing. Absolutley amazing.

You may want to pick that 4x8 out of your eye.

Married to a divorced woman who meets the criteria laid out in the new testament allowing for divorce. Her first husband was unfaithful to her.
