    From the CLT Observer:

    Sendek: Add to NCAA field

If Herb Sendek made the rules, N.C. State would be almost certain of an NCAA tournament bid.

So would Maryland, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Miami in the ACC, along with certain NCAA selections North Carolina, Wake Forest and Duke. Sendek proposes the NCAA tournament be expanded from its 65-team format.

"Why not give more student-athletes an opportunity to participate in one of the greatest sporting events on earth?" Sendek asked.

Larry Shyatt was an expansion proponent when he was coaching Clemson.

Gary Williams has coached Maryland to 11 straight NCAA tournaments, but still believes the field should be expanded.

"Sixty-four is a nice number because it's even and can play down in three weeks," Williams said. "But now it's 65, and they've already figured out how to play one more game."

Sendek said the format would have to be carefully considered. If the tournament included 96 teams, 32 teams could receive a first-round bye. At 128 teams, an extra round could be added.

Football's bowl games reward 56 teams -- 48 percent of the 117 in Division I-A -- with a meaningful postseason. In basketball, 20 percent of the 330 Division I teams reach it.

"Our basketball world in most cases doesn't permit or doesn't want to permit the student-athletes for those teams (left out of the tournament) to feel good about their seasons," Sendek said

Disagree with expanding the field. But I bet Mike Davis is all for it!!

I'd say that too if my ass was on the line because I wasn't good enough to make the tourny.

Yeah, Herb. The same thing applies in the REAL world too, not just basketball. It's called losing. And it sucks for a reason. Dumbass.

This sounds like a good reason to fire Herb. Well at least another one.
