No. He's one of the better pitchers of his era, but not one of the best of all time.

Steve Phillips pointed out on ESPN that Schilling never finished first in ERA and never won a Cy Young award, something that can't be said for any Hall of Fame pitcher except Goose Gossage.

Longevity is a funny thing for the HOF. It hurts JIm Rice, but it didnt' Sandy Koufax and won't for Pedro Martinez. Schilling shouldn't have been such a young punk loser until 1993, he threw away at least 30 wins.

Like they always say, it's called the HALL OF FAME, not the Hall of Pretty Good. It blows my mind that he is even being considered. The HOF gets more and more watered down every time there is an induction.

His career ERA and post-season heroics are unquestionably good enough to make him worth discussing, so it's not like he isn't close.

    not so much

Jim Bunning: 224-184, 2855 Ks, 3.27 ERA, 1.179 WHIP, Hall of Fame
Don Drysdale: 209-166, 2486 Ks, 2.95 ERA, 1.148 WHIP, Hall of Fame
Catfish Hunter: 224-166, 2012 Ks, 3.26 ERA, 1.134 WHIP, Hall of Fame

    Curt Schilling: 216-146, 3116 Ks, 3.46 ERA, 1.137 WHIP

There are lots of others. Schilling pitched in an era that, to varying degrees, was more hitter friendly than each of the above. Still, his ERA is comparable, his postseason record of achievement more than comparable. He never won the Cy Young, but was runner-up three times. Bunning never won either, and was runner-up once.

There are players not in the Hall who should get in ahead of Schilling, but there are also players who've been enshrined who aren't as worthy as Schilling. Basically, he's a loudmouthed buffoon, so he has his detractors.

Especially Drysdale. The 60s with the 15" mound were the pitching equivalent to the steroid era.

according to Jim Bunning's career stats, Bunning never won a Cy Young nor did he ever lead his league in ERA.
