What are your expectations? You really think we're in playoff contention, or even going to sniff at a winning record?

We're on our fifth coach in three seasons. If Canales is the right guy, he's going to have to somehow keep Tepper from dumping him; resurrecting hopes that we have a franchise QB is one way to do that.

 

My expectations are very low, but the team is spending, talking, and acting as if playoffs are a goal, so we have to hold them to that.


I think you're also underestimating how much better Young needs to look. Even awful to "like a franchise QB" isn't a good enough stride for what the team gave up (and passed up) to get him. He needs to be a superstar who makes the average shit around him look better. If you can't get that out of him, or at least consistent signs of that out of him, you're just wasting everyone's time.

 

Maybe it's because people are so enamored with Canales' QB guru moniker, but I haven't seen anyone consider whether or not Young is actually a good fit for the scheme. He's not anything like Geno or Baker.



Dalton starting games and doing the Geno late career surge thing would be a funny plot twist.

 

So are we gonna trade Miles Sanders to Indy?
What do you think we can get? I would say a 6th rounder at best, probably a 7th for them to take his salary

 

I still think Penny was signed to try to light a fire under Sanders.

 

Can you be a little more specific? Honest question here, not trying to argue or make a point. What do you expect out of this team this year?

 

I expect a better team than the 2023 Panthers, but a team that's still awful in the W/L column. Robert Hunt is a fine guard, Johnson is a nice receiver and a good one-year flier, but I don't see many other reasons for optimism despite excessive spending - unless you think Jadeveon Clowney has magically become an elite pass rusher in his 30's, and not a career journeyman who got hot in a friendly scheme for a few months. Basically, it looks like a situation ripe for false hope, similar to what some of us had after Rhule's first year. The team will look fine relative to low expectations but that doesn't buy you anything.

 

They can play better and still go 2-15 or they can be worse overall and win 2 more games.
