It depends on how many you buy. It gets cheaper per minute the more minutes you buy. I bought 60 minutes for $20 and then got 30 more for $5. They are good until July.

It is only cost effective if you do not use your phone a whole lot.

I just washed my phone this morning (3).

I'm going to go out and get a GoPhone (AT&T's version of the tracphone) and just plug in my chip. I hope to hell it works.

    Big Mark,
I don't know if you have already purchased the replacement phone, but I would ask the vendor of the Go phone if the the handset is locked. I am not sure if AT&T is still locking them, I know that Cingular did. You have to get the phone unlocked to interchange the chips. I am uncertain if that would still apply to the Go Phone subsidiary.
You can buy a Suncom phone, they are still unlocked I believe, and place your AT&T chip in the new handset, and go. There are other vendors that use the same GSM system which may work for you too.

    Good Luck,

I've also thought about going the pre-paid cell route.

Currently I have 300 anytime minutes for $35 with tax and nights/weekends starting at 7 PM but that's because I agreed to renew my contract for 2 years and they said that when the 2 years are up my nights go back to starting at 9 PM unless I upgrade my plan.

I've been checking out SERO (thanks!) and I wish my contract expired sooner (won't until 10/08).

I wonder if that referral email addy expires...
