    I've always had trouble with Abraham taking Isaac to Mt Moriah to sacrifice him. Some have said Abraham "knew" God would provide a lamb and that symbolized Jesus being the substitute sacrifice for us. Although Isaac wasn't a baby, the entire notion of a parent sacrificing a child is contrary to me.

    Sacrificing ANYTHING is brainless, barbaric, and the product of fear, whether it's Aztecs sacrificing prisoners to improve crops, Norsemen sacrificing horses before battle, or Christians burning Jews to end the black death.
    Sacrifice isn't simply associated with "evil' or "the devil", it's the product of fear-mongering religion.
    Killing a goat isn't going to help your corn crops grow better next fall.
    (Unless the goat was actually eating the crop).

    If you do not acknowledge Satan's existence then we can just call it an evil force or something but there has to be some explanation why any culture would advocate killing its own children.

    There is no logical reason for doing this. Even if you say all religion is false and believe only in science there is no basis for killing children. Survival instinct alone would preclude this.
