Any pearls of wisdom gleened from Rucker or Davis?

Davis was pretty rushed, and he is quite the silent type. Mostly talked to him about the satellite rig he has on his Escalade and also his charity BBQ he does every summer.

Rucker had some more time with and just sorta flat out asked him what was wrong with the defense. It just came out, and he pretty much said every man on the unit knows there is something amiss but they just cannot put a finger on it. They have good practices, good meetings and there is no chemistry issues. Just when it comes to execution on the field they are not getting it done. But he said everyone is just taking it one game at a time and they are all confident that the funk will soon end. From a comment he said about looking at the season in four quarters and about all the division opponents coming later in the season, I indirectly got that they are trying to win a game of attrition within the division as far as health is concerned. They want to be healthier than the other guys when November and December come rolling around and so far that appears to be the case.

Not too much other than that, we had a ton of kids around and took a bunch of photos and they signed autographs and kicked off our giving campaign at the campus.

One comment, this year we had a few Bobcat cheerleaders and their mascot. Man, Bob Johnson is one hell of a penny pincher. The girls would be hard pressed to get a job at the Shelby Hooters working in the kitchen and the Rufus the Mascot costume looked like it was mail ordered from Used Homeless Costumes Inc. Freaking sad!

That attrition angle is very interesting. It could in some way account for our laid back appoach to defensive aggression. We stepped it up for NE, but laid back for the weaker teams. After all we haven't lost any but Jenkins in " big loss category". We still have some good players on deck also. Garner, Carter, Mathis ....etc.

Atlanta TB and NO have lost more players than we.

    Thanks pantherfanz

    from the disturber...

The Carolina Panthers starting backfield was back at practice Thursday.

Although running back Stephen Davis (knee) and fullback Brad Hoover (shoulder) still are listed as questionable, their return to the field created some optimism about their chances of playing in Sunday's game at Detroit.

That possibility made the backfield make a whole lot deeper than Wednesday when Davis, Hoover, DeShaun Foster and Rod Smart missed practice and Nick Goings and Jamal Robertson were the only healthy running backs.

Foster (knee) did not practice Thursday and is listed as questionable. Smart, also the kickoff returner, did not practice and is listed as doubtful.

Davis and Hoover both toed coach John Fox's company line and said they're day to day. But Davis indicated he's not having any serious problems with his knee and Wednesday was nothing more than a day of rest.

"I practiced (Thursday). Weren't you all out there?" Davis joked with reporters inquiring about his health. "I practiced. I'm having no problems, man. I'm fine. I haven't had any setbacks or anything. Soreness here and there, but I have soreness in both my knees, my back and my shoulders, too."

Hoover said his shoulder remains sore after he injured it while blocking against Arizona on Sunday. But Hoover said there has been some improvement and he's hoping he's able to play against Detroit.

"I'm preparing to go, but it's coach Fox and the trainers' decision," Hoover said.

Not the defense…jouran handles that. He is conservative as hell.
