To be fair, the Damon deal was before the new labor agreement was done - which has added more money to the pot.

Anyway - I don't like the Drew deal that much and I am not at all sold on Lugo at all. Good thing we didn't stick with Cabrera or sign Eckstein. :banghead:

From what I have read JD is a defensive beast in right field. I still hate the fucker for dissing my Phillies years back. Now you guys got the "other" Japanese pitcher. He is older (already pitched 12 years in Japan) and is basically a setup pitcher. It seems hard to imagine the Sox getting anywhere near similar value for Manny.

Bad news on Matsuzaka. Hopefully it's just posturing.

I didn't expect them to sign him from the start, otherwise it doesn't make a lot of sense to move Papelbon into the rotation. If they don't, all it cost them to keep him away from the Yankees was some credibility. He seems like a great pitcher, but I don't think I'd spend $25 million a year on a guy who has never pitched in the major leagues.

The sox had planned to move Papelbon into the rotation well before they'd ever heard of this guy.

I know, but why continue with those plans if you are going to acquire him? Doesn't that seem like overkill, especially considering the gaping hole it leaves at closer?

Ah, that's right. My bad, I forgot about that issue. Anyway, I'm still hoping that Delcarmen gets a crack at the job since I have him for $1 in my keeper league.
