I don't at all mind paying for Rucker, Minter, Muhammad, Steussie. Teams that win long term are young and keep a portion of their young guys as they get older. It's guys like Gilbert that I obviously have the beef with.

Steussie of the group is an exception of course, but he's one of the few free agent situations we've had over the last five years that's worked out when we talk big money. I'd like to think we could make a corner like McAllister or Bly another upper-middle free agent buy and have success with him, instead of nickel and diming (literally, both ways) the corner position or expecting a rook will solve our problem immediately.

I'm stoked that Howard won the job. This is his big shot to be a full-time starter and make a big wad of money, too. I hope he sticks. Might make up for Rashard.

And then we've got Dante Wesley, too. It'd just be nice to not have to worry about spending money on corners next year, all the corners we've given $$ to have been a let down (Davis, Evans, Hitch).

The same reasoning makes me hope Weinke gets better. I'd rather have Weinke be 'the guy' and deserve it, and spend picks on stud receviers, maybe a stud guard, and DT.

Take out the need for QB and CB, and a good draft next year, we've got a near complete team.

Receivers could be even a bigger need if Walls retires.

Peppers, Rucker, and Jenkins. Yeah, I like having that line for a while.

It means a good 15 percent of our cap space will be going to DE in the future, but as long as they produce, that's a bargain.
