Mike Rucker signs five year extension with Carolina Panthers, per ESPN Bottom Line...that's the shit. Now we have him, Peppers, Morgan under contract for 4 more years - and our starting ends for 5 more.

Cool. I wonder what the terms were.

Rucker is a bright spot on this team. He certainly is a known commidity in the eyes of scouts. Good re-sign by the Cats.

Per the MO, Fox is solidifing the defense and hoping for offense.

Yep. it's also good to see Fox make a commitment to a player that wasn't his. It would be very easy to just let Rucker go through the season, make a market value attempt to resign him, and then let him go to put Peppers at right end, where he'd develop faster.

Deal is $24.5 million over five years. Yes, that's more than Moose got. $4.9 million a year, $5.5 mil in bonuses but no word yet when they'll be paid. Doubt all of it is this year.

"We are very pleased to extend Mike's contract so that he will remain a Carolina Panther," said General Manager Marty Hurney. "He has developed into an integral part of the foundation of the team as well as one of its leaders."

What does that put his cap number at and does it mean that we've spent what little room under the cap we had? Or does the signing not effect his cap number this year? If it does, unless a couple of high priced guys are about to get the axe forget about bringing another QB or CB for this year.

Did anyone find it interesting that this comes the day after Strahan signs an extension? Think Fox had that in the back of his mind?

Personally, I like Rucker better. Better player for the money and he will still be a very good player when his contract runs out. Not sure if the same will be able to be said about Strahan.

I would bet that the contract actually saves us some money this year. Then when we dump Lumpy and his fat contract next year, Rucker will nibble into that number.
