RSV must stand for "Really Shitty Virus" cause my daughter has it and it's messed her up some kinda bad. Oh yea, daddy isn't getting any sleep either. Anyone know how long it takes for RSV to run its course?

my son had RSV when he was a month old (back in Jan. 2002) and we almost lost him. He was in the ICU for a week, tubes sticking out of his face. He got the spinal tap to test for meningitis, and the doctor was basically telling us to pray and hope for the best. We had to give him albuterol treatments with a vaporizer for a couple months, laying him on our lap and hitting his lower back to keep the shit in his lungs loose and then using some suction thingy to pull it out of his nostrils. He came out of it OK and the doc said he could wind up developing asthma. so far that hasn't happened. He got colds pretty easy until he was about three. Now he doesn't get them any more or less frequent than a normal kid. He's very active and healthy.

My daughter was a month early so she got four RSV shots about a year ago. She's 11 months old now. The doctor didn't seem to think it was as serious now as it would have been earlier, but didn't rule out the hospital possibility. It just sucks watching her cry and not being able to do much about it.

The doc prescribed some sort of albuteral/benadryl combination to give for the cough. Other than that, I guess we just have to let it run its course.

Oh BTW, RSV = Bronchitis, I think. Since when did they start calling it RSV? The doc kept refering to it as RSV so I basically had to just ask.

Because my niece was born with a hole in her heart and then had open heart surgery at 2 months, she was given the RSV shots during the first year of her life.
