And while Gay may have laid an egg or two, he hardly tanked during all the big games, as you've asserted (28 points, four rebounds, four steals against Arizona; 19 and 8 against LSU; average of 16 and 8.5 in two games against Nova; 14, 12, five assists and three steals against WVU; 19, 4, 3, 3 vs. Kty in the tournament; average of 16 and 8.6 in three games against Syracuse.)

He was overhyped from the get go. Most people who have half a clue didn't have to wait until the end of the year to figure that out. But with the talent they have, he doesn't need to go out and shoot 25 times a game and rack up 20 points.

You're right when you say he didn't need to take 25 shots and score 20 for his team this year. He still didn't do enough to be in the Wooden awards finalists this year, the ONLY reason he is there is preseason hype and the fact he didn't average 9 points a game.
