Not so sure I would word it like that. It's not like just anybody could have stepped in and had the success that Roy has. Gut and Doh proved that.

I'd say Gut was living off what Dean did. But, that was the idea all along. Dean would turn over the reigns to Gut when UNC was at a high.
I don't even want to talk about the Doh years.
What Roy has done in his years at UNC has been terrific, but he's no Dean just yet.

    1. Roy is a very good Coach.

    2. Roy could win the next 10 NCAA titles and he still would not be greater than Dean Smith.

Innovator of what? Longevity? How to pound gin and tonics during a game?

What did he innovate, the 4 corners? Brilliant.

He is a bit overrated and greatly exagerated. He needed Freddy Brown and Chris Webber to create two of the biggest bone-headed plays in the history of basketball to win his two championships.

Not to mention having Michael Jordan do most of his top recruiting for him over the last 3rd of his carreer.

If Roy Williams had the stable of talent Dean had over his 36 years he would win 10 or more championships.

The guy built the program, that's for sure but he was no great coach. And you can do one without the other. See Jeff Mullins.

I know I'm not supposed to start a Biblical argument, and I'm really not. Because of your statement I'm going to assume you believe in Jesus Christ, and if you do you know that Jesus IS God, and because of that that means you're saying Roy is Dean. That's where it goes off track.
