Peete stated, and there were at least 2 articles on it, that he wants to stay awhile.

Depending on the situation, I'm ok with it. If we try to get a mid-level free agent, Peete would be a great backup, and might even hold the job in camp. You never know how a mid-level FA will work. If we get a rookie golden boy, Peete could STILL be on the roster.

Peete's numbers are by no means outstanding, but aren't terrible:

    He's 12 TD, 12 INT, 2136 yards, 59.5% completion, 79.0 rating.

Now, whether he gets a good contract is different. I wouldn't be opposed to a 2 year, $500k bonus and vet minimum. This would give him $1 million per year, and count only $700k per year on the cap. This is a bargain, even for a backup.

Just a thought. I'm not wanting him to be the starter, but alot of the FA guys aren't stellar, and are being dropped for a reason. Hanging onto Peete could be good insurance. But he'd HAVE to be totally cap friendly.

Please GOD don't let Henning go after Testaverde.

yeah, it's fine if he stays but I'd rather him not start. He's not terribly durable, he's certainly old as shit, but cheap he's part of the team's structure still and carries momentum over.

ON the flip side, I'd rather there not be a rift in this team where sides are chosen between Peete and a rookie who'd naturally be less of a leader to start off.

I'd rather Peete start than a rookie, at least until playoffs are eliminated.

Which might be week one if Peete suits up!

Keep Peete and draft Rex Grossman in round 2. If he comes out, Grossman is dropping and should be available in round 2. Grab him there and work on his decision making for a year.

Draft RB (McGahee or Larry Johnson) in round 1 and sign a WR (Boston, Price, Coles, Gadsen, Darrell Jackson or K. Dyson) in FA.
Draft WR in round 3 (Aiken, Gage, Woods, Washington or McMullen) Look for sleepers in later rounds like these guys: Anthony Davis, Avon Cobourne, Terrance Edwards, Arnaz Battle, Kareem Kelly, Ken Dorsey, Montre Holland, Brian St. Pierre, Dahrran Diedrick, Dominack Davis, Matt Walters, Michael Waddell, Derrick Dockery or Earnest Graham.

Something like this is ideal IMO:
    Draft
    1) McGahee
    2) Grossman
    3) Aiken/Woods
    4) Cobourne/Davis/Diedrick
    4) Dorsey/Pierre
    5) Walters/Holland
    6) Dockery
    7) Waddell

    Sign FA
    Boston
    Flozell Adams (RT)

We would be ok with that offseason. :D

As previously stated, please no Rex Grossman. He's the next Winky... (as far as NFL potential). IMO.

Yea, I read the Peete article. I liked how he said he expected more than the minimum but he wasn't "looing to break the bank" either. I got a chuckle out of that. Peete, we'll give you the league minimum plus 20%, some dinner coupons for Mortons and a discount on your next Carolina Dodge purchase. ;)

I really don't have anything against Peete on the roster. I'd like to think we bring something in via free agency that is a little better at seeing the open receivers. Peete threw some pretty damn good balls this year, but he also missed seeing several wide open opportunities.

    1. New Guy (At least 3-5 years in the NFL)
    2. Peete
    3. Fasani

Lets work on improving the O line and WR.

A better variation of this would be...

    1. New Guy (At least 3-5 years in the NFL)
    2. Peete
    3. Banks/Boller/Gesser

Get someone 2nd or 3rd that can challenge Peete for the 2nd spot, but we don't have to force up. And if Fasani actually looks decent, we can either cut Peete or trade Fasani for a pick.

Could your new guy be King?

We’ll see who is available. I’d rather not trade for a guy with questions like Warner or Stewart though. Vibe is that neither the Rams or Steelers will cut their guy without comp. Hell, if Palmer plays well the last couple of weeks, Collins could get axed. Talk about irony.

    Sandy,

I personally don't think Grossman is ready to come out and there are some things I dislike about his game, as a personal taste.

Am interested to know why you dislike him. He seems, on the surface, to be the type of QB you like. Mobile, can make things happen with his legs, completes passes with a guy throwing him to the ground. An emotional guy on the field.

Seems he has the mobility and "intangibles" you like, though I question his "tangibles" like vision, size and decision making.

Heck, shows you how much I follow the Giants, did not know Collins was out and Palmer in?

Unfortunately this town could probably not handle a Collins return. Unless I missed some Peete stats somewhere (may have), I think Collins brings more than any QB we have ever had. His two playoff appearances and one Superbowl are nothing to sneeze at. Our defense could very easily be as good as the one he went to the Superbowl with. I don't like that he still likes to marry up the number of TDs with INTs though...
