IUPUI-Valparaiso is a burgeoning college hoops rivalry.

The Big East and the ACC are not really rivals 'cause the Big East routinely wears out that ACC ass. :twocents:

See, when you say stuff like this, I'm always reminded of those great stories you used to tell of you childhood days in Harlem.

In the 60's under Vic Bubas Duke was in an elite class with Art Heyman, Mullins, and Dick Groat (or was he in the 50's). and Dean Smith was just coming into his own at Carolina How those teams didn't win a title is beyond me, but from what I've read and heard Art Heyman was unbelievable, and you talk to him today and he says the rivalry then was even more heated than it is now and that he still hates seeing UNC's color or their name on anyone.

So Carolina was no good and it was still a good rivalry? Sort of goes against your Yankees/Redsox theory.

I'm not saying that every rivalry is that way, but I'm saying that people are saying it's a bigger rivalry based on how well the Red Sox have done. There were not even close to as many Red Sox fans 10 years ago as it was today. The only thing they talk about on Sportscenter also is the Boston Red Sox, The New York Yankees, and T.O. Carolina was still a good team in the 60's they just weren't what they were in the 70's and 80's. I'm also saying that Duke and Carolina will be a fierce rivalry no matter what the records are and if the Yankees-Red Sox both suck there won't be nearly the rivalry among fans. UNC fans respect Duke's program and their success, and vice versa but the Yankees fans spit on the Red Sox fans, and with all the reason in the world. They owned them for the past 85 years. It's a good rivalry but nothing beats Duke-UNC. My roomate's from Cape Cod and he actually said that most of the people up in Boston don't even hate the Yankees all that much "it's just the cool thing to do right now" as far as being a Yankee Hater now that they can have a team that can finally matchup to the Yankees.

Do you have any basis for this statement or are you just defending the Duke/UNC rivalry?

Same goes for them too. That's why only State fans consider UNC their biggest rival (and not the other way around), because State hasn't been any good in anything for 20 years.
