    Maybe he actually thinks it's better, alot of people do. Ask anyone from Kentucky or the midwest, they aren't going to give a shit about Duke/UNC. Maybe you should demand an apology from Pitino

    You can't forget about N.C. State's titles also. I mean, he went blatantly out of his way to mention North Carolina. Also if you count UNC's 1924 title (which most people don't) then UNC-Duke have more titles. There's no denying how dominant the state of North Carolina has been over the past 14 years. They have a third of the national titles.

    screw Pitino...UCLA has em all beat. Wooden has 10 by himself in case he forgot

    Pitino went to the Knicks ..sucked..went to the Celtics and ran them straight into the ground. he tried to make the Celtics all kentucky players. they are still recovering from his tenure there

    plus hes coached at both schools. that would be like K coaching the Heels for a few years...

    UNC Duke is way bigger on a national scale. the only thing people care about UK vs Louisville is how many times they will show Ashley Judd in the stands...self included

    I would say Indiana is the probably best bball state . the jr high and HS levels are out of hand. there are soo many teams and kids playing hoops there its not funny.

    I'd say Lousville/Kentucky might be the best non-conference rivalry in the country, but in Duke/UNC you have a great matchup that usually goes a long way in deciding who wins one of the top basketball conferences in the country. They also play twice a year, as opposed to just once.

    well considering for over 60 years they NEVER played each other in the regular season ( 1920s-1980s) it's hard to even talk about them in the same sentence as UNC/dook as far as biggest rivalry goes.

    The hatred between UNC and Duke fans is beyond belief. Pitino coached at UK AND Louisville. The hatred between Duke and UNC would prevent such a thing here because the rivalry is so strong. Could you see Dean Smith or Roy Williams ever coaching the Blue Devils? What about Ratface building a nest in the Deandome? This could never happen, even though Roy and the Rat are the two best NCAA coaches today because the fans of the schools would not accept them. Louisville took Pitino with open arms. The Duke/UNC rivalry would not allow such a thing to happen here. It's too powerful.

    North Carolina
    Duke
    Wake Forest
    NC State
    Charlotte
    UNC-Wilmington
    Lets not forget DII...Queens is usually a powerhouse in their level
    Oh and if you want to count the high school level we have Mount Zion, Laurinburg, RJ Reynolds, etc

    How do you look at a list like that and not say that it is the best basketball state!?

    Because Indiana gets so crazy about their high school basketball that they call it 'March Madness', hence the phrase?
