We do need two #2s. Neither corner nor running back can really be put off till the 3rd. But will someone like Dennis Johnson be there in the second?

Exactly how long are you expecting Lamar Smith to start for us? That's kinda like, uhh, starting Steve Beuerlein without an heir apparent.

    Oh, my bad.

    But who's gonna call us?????

In light of recent events, I might take a little less to trade down.

Buffalo. Detroit makes them nervous. Detroit seems happy with McMahon, but making noise about taking Harrington, because I think they want to trade down. So Buffalo makes a move with us. Could we get that 2nd round pick? Detroit takes Peppers. That's my price, so we can get what we want. We take Jammer, Portis, and Weaver or Johnson. I still prefer Weaver.

Cowboys. Have the space. Someone has suggested they could look to trade us some picks and the oft injured EE. Rather have Ellis, but beggers can't be choosers. We also get their second rounder, and we do get a former NC defensive end. Jammer is gone. Wendall Bryant or Henderson. Either could play base side. Rumph/Sheppard and Portis/Foster, and either Denney, Overstreet, or Hall in the third.

Indy. They throw in their second, maybe a player or a 4th rounder, and a high 2003 pick. Similar to the Cowboys, except throw in Buchanon as a possible pick. If we take Buchanon, Weaver or Johnson as our DE. Possible could jsut take Duckett here too, but I don't like the value of our other, greater needs later. I do like Duckett a whole bunch though.

Saints. They offer that extra first and maybe a second rounder 2003. We're division rivals folks, so I just have a hard time imagining them picking up the phone. But let's say they do. They do need a DE. at 13, our decision may be made for us. Duckett. Now, with that other first rounder. This is the thing. We are reaching a bit with this pick. Might as well take the preferred corner. Lito or Mike. Lito is a bit more of a playmaker, but carries more risk. Kalimba Edward might be there, but do we feel like a small end our there? Target the end in the second round, in all likelyhood.

Oakland. I don't think Al wants to pay a #2 overall, and they would rather trade up to 6-12 to take one of the good DTs. They give us both their firsts and their second rounder. The bad thing, I don't like the value thier. Hopefully, Duckett or Green will be there. If only one is, do we take the bak first? Jets won't take a back, but someone might trade up if we take a corner before the Jets pick. Go ahead and take the back. Go corner, DE, and maybe get a DT like Freeman out of the deal.

Of these, I see Indy at 11 being the most likely, the others I actually doubt. If they were to package Rhodes, would that sedate our RB needs? He is a 1,000 yard rusher.

No I agree we need a RB... I've said that since the post season began... but we have more pressing needs than that... if we have a compitant starter we should fill the other bigger holes first and then NEXT year pick up a back... look at it like this... Smith signed a 3 year deal... year one we build up our defense and Smith is the starting running back, year two we bring in a rookie and have him play behind Smith or in tandum... this way he's brought into the system a LITTLE slow but by working a 2 back system he STILL gets some playing experience... year three the now 1 year RB hopefully is ready to take the next step and become a feature back... and if he's not we still have Smith for one more year JUST in case... that's why I was thinking in the direction I was...

I agree Brain, which is why I'm surprised Huntley gone. Like him or hate him you appease him through October and then sit him so you don't need to draft a guy this year. Next year we could go in and get the RB and the DT and we'd be doing fine.

Dream sequence: Dallas trades down with New Orleans. They trade up to us and we get 13, 27, and their 2nd. Take a DT, take Duckett or Green, then an end like Johnson at 34. Use their second on , Ross or Craver mght still be there.

I'd really rather just trade down one spot with Detroit and get another 2nd and still keep Peppers. But both are just dreams anyway.
