Saw it today. Spanish subtitles were a bit of a drag, but at least the audio was in english. Great movie. BTW, i haven´t read the books. Where the hell did they sail off to at the end of the movie and why did Frodo have to go?

The Grey Havens ships were headed to Valinor, aka "the undying lands". This is where the elves all go when they either grow bored/tired of Middle Earth or when they've served their purpose there. It's an honor for non-immortals to go there.

In the books, I believe, Frodo does indeed leave with Bilbo as the movie portrays. However, I believe Sam also goes after Rosie dies (isnt Sam the mayor of Hobbiton for a bit too & doesnt Frodo leave him Bag-End?), because he too was a ringbearer, for longer than the movie portrays. Also, Legolas and Gimli attend Aragorn's funeral in Gondor about 130 years after the ring is destroyed, and then Legolas brings Gimli with him on one of the ships. I believe Legolas was the the last elf to leave Middle Earth.

The ending left a lot to be desired. Very diffrent from the books. Overall I enjoyed the movie and the battle scenes were great.

the ending really needed to be differen than the book's ending... the movie trilogy is about the ring. when the ring is destroyed, the movies are over. as it stands, there was too much epilogue in the movie. having another 45 minutes of insignificant stuff happening would have been that much more anti-climactic...

good flick tho. i wanna see them all in extended version over the course of a week or so... that'd be nice.

Now that I think about it the ones between Grid and Kanash were the best.

The ending sucked. If I have to see one more long gaze between those homo hobbits or remember the shire one more time, I think I'll put a gun to my head.
