Any of the 6-series harmonies have the same programmability. So yes. And if you ever had to reset the config, it would take about 10 minutes max. Their backups are probably more reliable than yours or mine anyway :).

Totally not true. The Harmony remotes in the 6 series vary in their button positions specifically to fit the needs of various users. The 680 and 688 are commonly used for DVRs (I have an HD DirecTiVo and a 688). The button layout is similar to the standard TiVo remote, works fine.

Also not true. You can have 6 programmable buttons on the LCD per page, but most of the buttons are assigned to the hard buttons (play, stop, pause, record, guide, volume, channel, etc.). I only have 6 assigned at most to one "activity" so far...

Activities are controllable, renameable, and can be extended into LCD buttons for even more activities. The defaults on mine are "Listen to CD, Play Game, Watch DVD, Watch TV" - seems pretty reasonable...and there's a more button to bring up an extended list on the LCD. I can assign a delay between signals to whatever length I want in MS, and a general delay (if a delay isn't specified) as well. It's not hard AT ALL.

I've never seen a remote that was anywhere near as easy to configure, and I've had several. And the Harmony consistently wins awards for just that reason. Sure, a Pronto let's you input your own IR codes in hex form, design your own graphics for a button on the LCD, etc. But do you really want to spend the time to do that? I don't, I'd rather have the manufacturer do that work for me. The whole reason to buy one of these is to let my family and friends enjoy the system more quickly and easily...

Anyway, I get hyped-up about misinformation on boards. Glad you're happy with your choice, but stick to touting it's features, don't knock something you clearly don't know much about.

the activity based approach makes SOOOOOOO much sense. i always hated the idea of having to punch a button to tell a remote that it's supposed to be in TV mode to adjust the volume, then cable box mode to adjust the channel, etc.

i also like the form factor of the harmony. it's still a one hand remote. the other advanced remotes look like they'd take two hands to operate.

I was clearly talking about the 659 remote as that was the newest version when I was in the market for them just over a year. In the attached picture you can see what I meant about the play, pause, ffw, rew buttons at the bottom of the remote. I see the 688 has corrected that issue though.

Again not misinformation but maybe stale information since I was referring to the older model. I have not regretted my decision to go with the HTM line of remotes since purchasing one. If you are happy with the harmony than that's all that matters. My family and friends that use the mx-800, have no trouble at all using it. It's easy to program and it works everytime, period.

I'll just assume you mean not knowing much about the newest line of Harmony remotes here, and leave it at that.

Exactly, and this is just called macros instead of activities for other remotes.
The mx800 would qualify as an "advanced" remote, but if you think it takes two hands to operate then you probably have other direct proportionate issues which should take precedence.

that one looks pretty normal to me. most of the others i've tend to be the extra-wide variety. still, on looks alone, i like the harmony (tho the first harmonys with the screen on the bottom look down-right stupid).

Since you never mentioned the 659, how are we to know that's what you are referring to? You bring it up in a later post, and all of the other posts just say "I hate harmony's, I hate activities", and then you backtrack and say "activities are just macros" and "I love macros".

Instead, you could bring up the real difference between these two devices other than the incredible ease-of-use/programming of the Harmony: no Harmony currently provides RF support, and no Harmony provides blowjobs.

Oh, You can get it at cost too. And Bootay... but no one else.

I just wanted to point out that the source of this quote, and my response to that quote are many, many posts away. And none of the posts between willl ever be read by me. An argument about TV remote controls, ending with a reference to blow jobs. What the fuck is wrong in here?

Back to wrinkling my brow at the sick bastards in the Rant section.
