...we were thinking of signing Scott Mitchell when we signed Peete. That has nothing to do with anything, other than that I'm able to deal with Peete for a few games knowing he's not Mitchell.

Yeah I feel ok about the whole thing.

Peete and Weinke might have similar talent - but there's one thing Peete doesn't have - the monkey of 15 straight losses on his back.

I agree with Fox - while this obviously isn't popular, it's likely the best chance to win on Sept 8, 2002.

You've gotta like Fox for taking the risk.

All we need is a home opener win. Everyone will be happy.

BTW - At practice they were doing fake field goals again.

    Tuten!
Yeah. We bench our quarterback because he didn't walk fast enough to the water bucket in practice, our backup left tackle's catching passes, and we kept Gilbert so we could rub his belly and put pennies on him in hopes of good luck.
But hey...we have the shotgun and our coach wears a headset! And the franchise likes to use the word "exciting" so why question?

I'm just fucking around. I'm intrigued by what the hell these people are thinking. Glad Sauerbrun is holding again. At this point I want to see him returning kicks.

I new when we signed Peete, that if Weinke slipped Peete would play. I just don't think Weinke has slipped. He has not produced, but it is hard to during a couple of series during preseason. I watched Peete last year with the Raiders and wanted to sign him as Weinke's backup. When we signed him in March I posted the following.....

RE: Could Weinke lose the starting job? ( 77.4% relevant )
Don't be surprised when Peete gets the job if Weinke struggles.

I think Weinke can be a great QB, but if he slips Peete will start. Henning is familar and comfortable with Peete.

Lytle will not make it through training camp. Peete could very well start for Henning, if Weinke slips in training camp. I don't see Weike slipping though. The fact that Henning will play to Weinke's strengths rather than trying to transform him into a two step 10 yard passer will help Weinke out tremendously. Not to mention the running game taking precedence in our offense this year will allow Weinke to air it out and feel comfortable in the pocket.
