Are there any ordained minister's on this board?

This next statement has nothing to do with that question, it's just something I thought of asking.

My friend is an African Hebrew Isrealite (black jew).. everytime I talk to her, she trys to convince me that being a Christian is not right.. then goes back to the Old Testment Bible scripture of "only serve one God".. I don't like to argue about Religion, but that sticks in my head when I start thinking about who God is..

Why are there so many darn religions.. I just want to get some feedback, what religion are you? What do you believe's happens to you when you die?

    I think Hasbeens is ordained.

One thing I learned: All major religions have the One God principle. As I understand it they have different names for God, but still only one God. So, I don't understand how your friend's being an African Hebrew and the OT Bible scripture of "only serve one God" conflicts with 'Christian is not right'.

No offense, but, are you drunk? :)

the "one God" ideal deals not only with the idea that judeo-christian roots started in a polytheistic society, but also the idea that idolotry was in conflict with worshipping God (a la the golden calf in the ten commandments introductions). At least, that's how I took it.

I don't believe denomenations and differences between church identities is what I think of, when someone says "one God." Jews have claim to being the first to worship at the altar of the Christian Lord, but they're certainly not the only ones. It sounds like you were being asked to convert to what she believes, nothing more.

Also, I just remembered, one of the main differences between the Old Testament and the New Testament is the OT has a chosen people(the Jews) by God, and the NT has a chosen individual(Jesus, instead of a people) by God. This point may have a bearing on your friend's desire to convert you.

Could be.. well she can't convert me.. i'll always believe in Jesus Christ.. just loosing my religion lately.. I'm sick and tired of Religions.. especially the ones that try to tell you that you are wrong for what you believe, and that they are right. I met a Roman Catholic a month ago who tried to tell me the same thing.. I'm like damn, how many Christians are going to be fighting about which way to believe in Jesus. :wtf23:

Don't be offended. Try to understand that, to the person or source that's "preaching" to you, that what they're telling you works for them. And sometimes people forget that what works for them won't necessarily work for you. Also, just the fact that they're preaching to you could imply that they think that there is something wrong with your beliefs, which can be "insulting." Try changing the subject or walking away. If that doesn't work a polite "fuck off" might be in order. :)

My religious beliefs tend toward Judaism - moreso now than perhaps ever before. I still have some reading and discussions to undertake before I consider totally converting (and believe me - it's very difficult to convert. Judaism isn't an `open' religion. One must really want this for a number of reasons). Personally, I loathe - hate people challenging me on my religious beliefs. It's such an intensely personal issue. When people tend toward this, I am instantly turned off. While I respect other people's belief systems - I would never challenge or debate someone else's preference. After all, no one really knows do they? We go with what we're comfortable with and what will help us on a day to day level and comfort us during difficult times. I know that's an oversimplification - but that's the guts of it. At least for me anyway :). Go with your heart SD - trusting yourself will lead you to the right place.
