'Hibernation' is a term to describe my behavior when I read a Tom Clancy book. I usually go long periods of time without food and water and computer access.

I hope to get through a good chunk of this today. I'm home sick, so it depends on how well I can stay awake.

I've got the new one, too. It's been on my shelf for about three weeks now. No time to read it.

From the synopsis, it looks like Clancy is going back to the meat and potatoes of the Jack Ryan story rather than developing the 'Rainbow' spinoff. I find that a little disappointing to be honest. I mean I love his work--read every book in the series at least three times--but I'm getting a little tired of Jack being the savior of the world all the time.

To me, John Clark (Kelly) is a more interesting character that could be developed more than he has. I heard a rumor that a movie based on "Without Remorse" was in the works, but I haven't heard any more about that in several years. Too bad. Would've been a great one.

The problem I've seen with developing a story involving John Clark is that they haven't found the right person to play the part. The guy in 'Sum of All Fears' was very understated, and Willem Dafoe just doesn't seem the ruthless type.

I actually picked it up the day it came out. Course I have about 2-3 books in front of it to read. I'm surprised it wasn't as long as The Bear and the Dragon. He must be slacking off.

Did you hear him on John Boy and Billy a while back? Funny stuff, he seems like such an ass. Still love his books though. It might be on the John Boy and Billy website, thebigshow.com.

My impression of Jack Ryan is Alec Baldwin. I thought he played him best. Seems to be the right age as well. I definitely don't imagine William Defoe as John Clark. I'm thinking along the lines of a young Sam Elliott. Someone in their 50's who looks war weathered so to speak. The guy that played Chavez in Clear and Present Danger did a good job. That was about how I pictured him. Is Chavez in Rainbow Six? I haven't read that one yet.

Yes. Rainbow is an anti-terrorist team led by John Clark.
