I noticed in the meat section at Lowe's that they had two types of steaks I had never had. Ranch steaks which looked pretty lean like a sirloin but kind of round in shape. Flat Iron steaks had small streaks of fat in the meat but none around the edges. I'm thinking the ranch is close to a sirloin in taste the the flat iron close to a rib eye...but both are half the cost, $5/pound. Anyone ever try these?

Flat Iron stead is also called Shoulder Top Blade Steak...it is the 2nd only to the beef tenderloin in tenderness.

A lot of resteraunts are adding it to the menu because it is a very good steak and much less expensive than a sirloin or ribeye.

Lowe's has them on sale saturday for $2.99/pound.

flat irons are awesome. they are smaller so you have to buy two or three instead of one big one...and cook them less, but they are tender and tasty.

ranch steaks are kind of a smaller version of sirloins, but more tender. same as above, cook them less and buy more than one.
