"Warner reminds me of Montana. They are or were good but, given the talent around them is what made them good. Put them in another city with average players surrounding them and they would be mentioned with the likes of Todd marinovich/ Chris weinke!!!!

You have to surround yourself with TA L E N T" posted wolverine

i disagree that montana should be compared to those two names you mentioned. actually, i strongly disagree, (LOL) that you mentioned him in the same light as those two nobodies. he did have talent around him, but he carried and inspired that talent around him. he lead the niners, no doubt. he inspired his teamates to become good, like a leader should. he had vision. made big plays when it was needed. made good decisions. he turned a game around more times than i have ever seen any qb did. he won games when it seemed like it was almost impossible to do so at the very last minute! that, to me was his trade mark. i am talking about the joe montana of the sf 49ers of the 80's! a true legend, wolverine. revered in all of california, not just frisco.

warner and all these qb's do not compare to the great hall of famer joe montana. i was kinda insulted, so i said something in his defense. my whole family woulda disowned me if i didnt.

however, i am a viking now.

IMO, the two greatest QB's ever were both Joe's. I'm not sure who was better, but they are both legends. But more importantly they were winners. They always made the big plays when it counted.

I disagree, of course its all opinion here, but Winky could not carry Montana's jock strap in any situation. Montana was a playmaker (more so than Warner). Guys like that tend to make stuff happend no matter where they play. Montana also did not come from obscurity to have 2 good years and then fade out like the end of a record.

As far as Warner goes... the only chance he has to go down as one of the great ones is to revive his career, otherwise, as you put it, he was just good because of the talent around him. Montana on the other hand was very good. I also thought him to be a better leader.

But hey, its all opinion right...

He ain't revered in my little corner of California, Lex! :p I was always more partial to Dan Marino as far as legendary QB's go.

You're right, Lex. Marino kicked Montana's butt in every statistical category there is except Super Bowl wins (which, BTW, is a TEAM award) without a running game. :p :D
