I, and good number of people, would gladly take a healthy Warner. But he didn't get right all last off season. So there's risk that we may get last season's Warner, who I wouldn't give a case of Miller Light for.

    >> Warner doesn't fit the Panthers offense

okay. you piqued my curiousity. what attributes would a guy need to fit as a QB in the Panthers offense? i can figure that he needs to be able to hand the ball off and occassionally lob a rainbow down the field with some degree of accuracy. keen eyesite to read all that small print on the wristband. can't be a drunkard or a snorter (which disqualifies most on this board). what else would we be looking for?

    >> Montana ... mentioned with the likes of Todd marinovich/ Chris weinke!!!!

may god have mercy on your soul

    >> or with the Cheifs

I'd say that any championship team will have talent. Joe's teams won great talent or not. Whether he'd have been great without Walsh's O and Seifert's defense, that's a lot harder question. He wasn't the type QB to have just straight outgunned the guys they had back then.

yes. i think you can spend your money wisely by passing on him. he wasnt healthy last season and the season before that, he choked, IMO. i also think you should not settle for second best, but look for the best. with what you have right now, anyone looks pretty good. not a good way to think or go.

if i were calling the shots for ya, i would pass on warner. he doesnt strike me as good investment.

isnt that what this thread is looking to answer?

The Panthers would crazy not at least make a phone call. He might be willing (actually better be willing) to take a pay cut.

pay cut? yay, i think he commands like top pay, if he takes a pay cut, he'd still be too much. really dont know his asking price.

but you right. at least go look see. the thumb. the thumb is a concern, bear. that damn thumb can f things up. dont know how serious that injury is.

There is absolutely no way in the world I'd be in favor of a trade. I don't want the Panthers to have to bear any part of that monster contract of his.

As a free agent, I'd absolutely LOVE to get him in our locker room. I think he'd be perfect for our offense, as I understand it. He's a decent game manager, smart, and is a tremendous leader -- on and off the field.

His injuries to his throwing hand are obviously a concern of mammoth proportions. The man hasn't had a good throwing arm in 2 years. Well, now he's had a good long while to rest it. I'd offer him a little over veteran's minimum with a lot of incentives, in a deal that's cap friendly if he can't come all the way back. This is a character guy, and I don't think it can be argued we need some more character guys on this team.

I have stated for quite a while that I see no way Warner gets here. It will take a trade - and the Panthers won't be willing to give up a good enough pick to get him. To be completely honest - Kordell Stewart has a MUCH better chance of getting here than a Warner. If they want a vet - I would go with Kordell who played in the pro bowl last yr. He would be a great addition - even if he is inconsistent. With us running the ball 60-70% of the time, Kordell can have a positive impact on this offense - which is as much as we can ask right now.

I would spend our 4th round picks on Kordell and Stephen Davis.
If Wash and Pitts would accept I would consider this offseason a HUGE success with those 2 alone!

Warner is better than Kordell. You get what you pay for.
