What do you think about Warner?
Personally I think he was a shooting star, and now flaming out.
I also don't care for his wife, but..............................................

    RAMS DANGLING WARNER

"A league source tells us that the St. Louis Rams discreetly are dangling quarterback Kurt Warner, and that a couple of teams are expressing an interest in the former two-time MVP.

Though the dance is still in its preliminary stages, the Rams realize that the salary cap implications of such a move could prevent a trade from happening, absent an agreement by Warner to restructure his contract.

Warner is scheduled to earn a $6 million option bonus on February 28. If the Rams exercise the option, Warner will earn base salaries of $5.3 million in 2003, $4.75 million in 2004, $4.5 million in 2005, and $5.1 million in 2006. He also would get roster bonuses of $1.25 million for 2004, $1.5 million for 2005, and $2 million in 2006.

The problem is that the trading period likewise doesn't commence until February 28.

So, unless the Rams can swing a deal for Warner on the same day the option must be exercised, it'll be hard for the Rams to make a trade happen -- absent an agreement by Warner to restructure his deal.

We don't have the brains or the patience to work through the cap implications of a trade before or after the option is triggered. Regardless, the Rams have too many free agents to take a cap hit unnecessarily, but they likewise can't afford to sink big coin into a guy who might be parked on the bench.

So it all comes down to Warner -- if the Rams can ship him to the a team where he won't have to fight to be the starter, maybe he'll accept a new deal that will enable the trade to go down.

The Rams will pay Warner his bonus, as they should, he earned it, then try to trade him, which they won't be able to do.

    ...but no interest here

I think the Panthers should at least inquire.

    Crest,
That really is not the point of this thread. I'm asking everyones' opinion of Warner as a quarterback for the Panthers.

I'd say we give them our 5th round pick this year and next and our First round pick in 2017.

No. Not mobile enough to be effective against most defenses. Issues with broken bones in right hand. Porous offensive line of Panthers + NFC South defenses (Falcons, Bucs) = QB running for his life (sacks, ints, fumbles, IR) losses. Not to mention the huge price tag his agent will demand. Back up? yes Starter? no.

Warner doesn't fit the Panthers offense, he would want to be somewhere he'll be chuckin' bullets.
That aside, if he were willing to play in a run based offense...he's better than anything we've got.

And he's from Iowa! Actually wish he'd come back to Cedar Rapids to visit. I have his first SI cover and would like to get him to sign it before I frame it.
