    Interception that wasn't vs. Saints

Panthers coach John Fox has called the NFL offices "four or five times" to get a reaction on the illegal contact penalty that nullified Reggie Howard's interception on New Orleans' final, game-winning drive Sunday. He's heard nothing.Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden spoke his mind on the play Wednesday.

"The interception last week, not to criticize officiating but Jiminy Christmas," Gruden said. "I can't take any more fines for criticizing officials, but I hated to see that. Not just rooting against anybody or rooting for anybody, but Jiminy, that was an awful close call to me." -- S.O.

  2. When he coached for the Raiders he never got ANY calls on replay or anything. Really weird. Of course, you gotta remember the "tuck rule" call on Brady's fumble that would have put the Raiders in the Superbowl...

(tho I dunno what he's talking about here since i don't really follow nfl these days)

Reggie Howard got called for defensive holding (impeding the progress of a receiver before the ball is in the air) within the legal limit for a chuck, five yards, but the call didn't happen until after Howard sprung in front of the receiver and intercepted the ball.

Derrick Brooks on his weekly show today said there was no way Carolina should have lost that game and he emphasized how bad a call that was, and he said he'll never be convinced there was a penalty.

BTW, lots of respect all around from Buc players and fans about the Panthers. Gruden took it personal though that the Panthers D shut his offense down.

  5. Oh cry me a river, would ya? :nopity: What about the roughing the passer (NOT!) call on Hand, or the official saying he blew the whistle after Darin Smith ran an interception down to the 20 yard line, or why the officials wouldn't give a measurement on 4th down when Brooks asked them to and then dropped a flag for delay of game? Officiating sucked for both teams, fellas. If the game weighed so heavily on Howard's "non penalty", then why didn't the Panther's defense stop New Orleans from driving 85 yards for the go ahead touchdown? Please.

  6. Muff, I love your moniker - deep diving is my specialty. But, I digress...

Brooks didn't get a measurement because he wasn't within a YARD of the first down. By attempting to "show-up" the ref, there was no way he'd get a measurement. Haslett is a punk. Wimpy-ass IUP linebacker...

Hand was penalized because even he knew Peete had delivered the ball - and then he attempted to plant for Rodney, support by his "300 pound" tonnage...

The Aints aren't going all the way - they're good, but not that good. The "prevent" defense pisses me off - always has. The only thing it "prevents" is stopping the other team and winning the friggin' game. SAME as last year, in that regard.

also, that interception was encroachment... even the commentators were saying peete just threw it up there because it was a free play

  8. Mine too :D I'm sure we have a lot in common.

    Is not.

Yeah, that was awesome, huh? Still a non-call.

No they are not. Too inconsistent. But then again, any given Sunday....

  9. Charlotte commentators no doubt?

  10. Muff, I'm a Thespian too!:D ;) Tongue-ups, every morning.

Haslett is too. Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Buffalo Jill. Wimpy wimp. Most known for running his foot over Bradshaw's head after Terry's helmet came off - classy guy... The Steelers D got better when that weenie left...

Hand should be penalized for being fat. We get Gilbert - lazy tub of goo - and the sAints get Hand. Yeah, that's fair. Hope we cut his wide injured ass - now.

Nope - commentator was Tim Green. Not a Panther...but a Dirtybird... Heck, anyone could see it was encroachment...
