Well I don't know metro so I can't speak for him but my theory of the people I know or have seen drinking Diet Soft drinks - well they are overweight to say it politely.

I've known about the benefits of water a real long time. Its amazing how much better you feel in the afternoon if your stuck behind a desk and slam down an ice cold bottle of water...

Never heard that about insect bodies.. just don't know what half that shit is listed on the side of the can.... ;)

I kicked the cola habit and it was a big one. Been off of them for over 2 months now. Water and beer are the only things I drink now.
I drank coke like a fish but I have always drank it in ice. I unhooked the ice macker on the freezer and that helped a lot.

Edit for a disclaimer: I am a coffee junkie. At least I use Splenda now instead of sugar though. But no soda for me - ever.

Edit #2: Wait, wait. I forgot that I do drink soda occasionally, but only as a mixer. :D

Before I had started the Atkins diet, I was drinking caffeine free sodas but not diet. I made the switch and have found lately that I really don't crave it at all, but mostly water. Wal-mart has some awesome flavored water. I keep it on hand at work and at home and drink at least a big bottle and a small bottle of water a day. Today was two big bottles and a small one. I figure if I can get the water in, it'll help with the weight loss more.

I've lost weight by eating right, not because I've been drinking Diet Coke. It's just nice to have something I can drink that has some taste to it.

Just something to think about: Sucrolose (Splenda) -
    "Chlorinated Pesticides
According to Consumers Research Magazine "Some concern was raised about sucralose being a chlorinated molecule. Some chlorinated molecules serve as the basis for pesticides such as D.D.T., and accumulate in body fat. However, Johnson & Johnson emphasized that sucralose passes through the body unabsorbed."

Of course, this assertion about not being absorbed is complete nonsense. As shown above, a substantial amount of sucralose is absorbed, so the argument is not valid.

According to the HAD, "The manufacturer claims that the chlorine added to sucralose is similar to the chlorine atom in the salt (NaCl) molecule. That is not the case. Sucralose may be more like ingesting tiny amounts of chlorinated pesticides, but we will never know without long-term, independent human research."

It took me a week to get off of Mt. Dew. Now I have 2 cups of Folgers instant with powdered creamer and 2 packets of Slenda.
