my one vice is Coke/Pepsi. I love it. It makes me consume about 500 extra calories a day, 3500 a week, 15,166 per month, and 182,000 calories a year. Damn that stuff and it is very hard to stop drinking it. Nothing better than some crushed ice and a coke when you get home from work.

I weigh 220, and I am 5-11. My goal is 185, which is perfect for my frame.

    I'll diet with you guys.

Diet Rite. No aspartame, and damn tasty. Several different flavors as well.

    I feel your pain Metro.

Switch to Diet at least. Takes about a week to get used to the taste difference. Then the regular stuff tastes toos weet and you wont want it anymore.

The easiest first step is Diet Dr Pepper. They dont lie in the commercial. That stuff is good.

I'll try to find the facts but in the mean time, a medical study I read a few months back suggested that Diet soft drinks are no better than the real think if your looking to lose weight.

The summary of the study was that when you drink a diet soft drink, the taste of "sweet" triggers something in your body... when your body does not get that sugar it feels unsatisfied so usually before to long after your diet soft drink your eating a candy bar or other sugar filled snack... makes sense to me.

On another note, I thought about conducting my own little survey. I'm betting if I were to put the first 100 Diet soft drink people I met on a scale, 90% of them would be at least 40lbs overweight. ;)

Edt: my personal physician pretty much verified this. He said don't switch to diet, try to cut it out all together... ever look at the ingredients of most popular soft drinks... diet or regular? There is a lot of bad shit in them things...

well, switching to diet is a good first step for those that can't just go straight for the water.

i'm thinking that the caffeine has a strong pull. maybe drink water and take nodoz?

I'm interested in finding any facts that would say switching to diet is a good step. I've found more and read more that says just the opposite.

Edit - I guess its all what you believe. I'll post my links to my anti diet soft drink war here. ;)

This was not the one I was looking for but a start.

DIET SODA-LESS CALORIES, MORE SIDE EFFECTS!

Sandman, I get your point about it, but I think there might be a cause-effect issue here that you're getting backwards.

A lot fo people drink Diet sodas to justify that 11 pound chocolate brownie they ate or the 13 gallons of ice cream they inhaled last night. Obviously, it doesnt work that way.

But for those who's major addiction is soda, it's a very good tradeoff. Metro is dead on with his numbers. It makes a big difference. And if you cut the caffeine too, then you're really doin something good for yourself.

Point being - people like metro probably wont run out and buy a pound of sugar to freebase because they didnt get they're 20 oz coca cola today if they have a caf free diet coke.

And yeah, water is better for you. No artifical chemicals. Plus, dont they use insect bodies for dye in coca cola?
