Would any answer someone else gives to you be in any real way better or more right than the answer you discover and embrace for yourself?

God let Satan put Job's faith to the test to prove it was genuine. Satan refuted God's praise for Job, saying that he was only "good" because God was spoiling/protecting him. God allowed Satan to do anything to him but kill him to prove that Job's faith was, indeed, real.

As far as Job's kids who were killed go, they were judged accordingly, but considering God's heart for children expressed elsewhere in the Bible, I would assume they were accepted into heaven.

No answers from other people alone would be enough to sway my beliefs. I do like getting other people's perspectives on things in general though, & if I was "searching," I would want to explore all the possibilities I could (which is something I've done that helped bring me to my current belief system). In asking my questions though, I was primarily thinking in terms of encountering whatever deities there might be & essentially saying, "Hey, what's up with this shit?"

i believe his children were grown when they were killed. There's just something that seems mean about the whole thing.

    Satan can be that way.

It also communicates how valuable a true faith relationship is to God, that He would go to such an extent to prove it true to His enemy.

no i meant it seems mean on Gods part. If it weren't for God saying to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job?" Satan wouldn't of even messed with Job.

Job's kids were adults cause it stated that the sons would have drinking and feast at their houses, taking turns and invited their sisters.

I can see where you'd say that, but if you also look at it like this God allowed his own son to come to earth to take on the sins of everyone, and be sacrificed. Due to that Job and his family were together forever in heaven.

Our bodies dying on earth really don't matter. As long as your saved, you'll go on. Your existence here is just a small blip in time, where as your time in heaven will be forever.
