I feel like I repeat myself on every thread. I think EWING will ge good. He doesn't have the same pressure as the KIDS at the HEEL, and I don't know how you can't see that. The best analogy I can use is this: Ewing is playing with the best in the country. It makes your game better. Like when your at the Y and your team is KILLIN all comers. Even if you happen to be the weak link on the team - your shots still fall. It's that simple!

On the Lang, Capel, and Curry matter; do you really think Lang and Capel can play? The answer is NO! It doesn't matter that they were McDonald's all-americans - they suck. Some players never pan out. Curry coulda been good at a sport had he picked one. Also, he had a serious Achilles injury that robbed him of some explosiveness and quickness. That's a fact! Not all high school players pan out; remember BURGESS, BEARD, COLLINS, PRICE? All were McDonald all-americans.

I would love to be Daniel Ewing--how could a kid not get better playing against Jason Williams and Chris Duhon every day?? Not to mention he's got four former guards on the staff to help him--notably Dawkins. But the kid is definitely impressive. He's 6-3 with mad hops and can take it to the rack with the same effect as he shoots the trey-bomb. IMO Duke will still have the nation's best backcourt, arguably, after JWill leaves b/c of Ewing and Duhon.

I would like to post some interesting statistics for you Lang/Capel bashers out there... I decided to do a statistical comparison between Lang/Capel, and NC State's Grundy/Miller. Grundy/Miller have received kudos all year long for their strong play, and are generally given a lot of credit for NC State's success this year. Lang/Capel have been blasted by everyone as incompetent. Here are my results:

    Pts:
    Capel-14.8
    Lang-14.7
    40.7% of UNC

    Grundy-17.4
    Miller-9.8
    36% of State

    Rbs:
    Capel-8.5
    Lang-6.2
    35.3% of UNC

    Grundy-5.5
    Miller-1.3
    20.2% of State

    Assists:
    Capel-3.1
    Lang-0.9
    23.3% of UNC

    Grundy-3.5
    Miller-3.1
    41% of State

    Turnovers:
    Capel-2.7
    Lang-1.8
    27.6% of UNC

    Grundy-2.1
    Miller-1.8
    25.9% of State

    Steals:
    Capel-1.1
    Lang-0.9
    32.8% of UNC

    Grundy-2.2
    Miller-1.2
    43% of State

    Blocks:
    Capel-0.1
    Lang-1.3
    37.8% of UNC

    Grundy-0.2
    Miller-0
    8% of State

Now, some of the statistical differences are understandable given the different positions that all of these players play... Capel/Lang - front-line, Grundy/Miller - backcourt. Therefore, it's not amazing to see more rebounds and blocks for Capel/Lang than for Grundy/Miller. Additionally, it's not amazing to see more assists and steals for Grundy/Miller than for Capel/Lang. However, if you look at the points (in favor of Capel/Lang), then you see that at 41% to 36%, Capel/Lang have actually contributed significantly more to the overall effort than Grundy/Miller. It seems to me that they appear to be more than holding up their end of the bargain. In my opinion, it's really the PLAYERS AROUND THEM that have dropped the ball! Although, I will admit that Grundy makes a lot of BIG shots, and, therefore, does deserve a lot of credit. Players like Hodge, Melvin, Sherrill, and Evtimov are the players on NC State that have stepped up to make the difference between these two teams.

There just does not seem to be any statistical evidence that Lang/Capel are the root of evil that many Carolina fans want to believe. I think that these players are getting a raw deal from "true" Carolina fans, and it will give me one more reason to pull against Carolina next year when Lang and Capel are gone...

Lang and Capel's main problem is that they are probably two of the biggest flat footed players I have ever seen. Capel couldn't play defense as a freshman and he still can't . He doesn't move his feet. They are both very good complimentary players. Four year starters no less. But they are not stars -

As for the Heel's - the next biggest problem is the TOTAL lack of talent or depth in the junior and sophomore classes. The debate has raged all year as to whether UNC had talented players or not. Well there is NOONE WITH A SHRED OF BASKETBALL INTELLIGENCE THAT CAN ARGUE THERE IS ANY TALENT IN THESE TWO CLASSES

You got Will Johnson - a freaking redheaded, pasty white, no jumping Morehead scholar from Hickory that would get nice filler minutes on any previous UNC team. A starter? OMG!

Boone/Morrsion - The two headed turnover guard. They should have gone mid major/ Ivy league to start or nice career backups in the ACC.

The next problem - the freshman class - There is obvious talent and athleticism here - but it is painfully obvious that none of these were breakout talents - no take charge bones in the three of them. None of them were prepared to be starters. They all should have learned in practice, from the bench, all with backup minutes. Hell even Vince Carter rode the pine most of his freshman year. Here we got all three of theses guys trying to be major contributors.

    # 4- Doherty is not capable yet of coaching through this kind of team. Not enough experience, no knowledge at all from his assistants, a great recruiter, an okay game coach, obviously not a good teacher/practice coach - YET. UNC was not a school to get on the job training. Should still be cutting his teeth at a lower profile school.

Try to put all ths together and it just doesn't fit. This is the worst TEAM I can remember seeing in many years.

I know all you dookies and ABCers are tired of hearing this but I really think in two years UNC will have an awesome team. That carries with it alot of assumptions. Mainly that next year's freshman class ( or at least part of it) is finally the REAL DEAL.

With Morrsion/Boone as experienced, back up veteran seniors, this years freshmen class as experinced, talented juniors, sophmores Felton, Mccants, May kicking ass and likely another strong freshman class - well I don't see how even Doherty could screw up that kind of team. But its all speculation anyway so ..

wake me up in 2004. just call me wossastilskin.

y'alls boy kenny smith thought the talent was there. By the way, kenny smith SHOULD NOT be allowed to do acc games. His bias was so bad in the fla state-duke game that duke lost. Can't stand him. Just my two cents.
