how much, if any, does medicare or medicade pay towards this?

how much would one expect to pay for a sitter during the day, say 8 hrs.?

what are some good sources to check for nurses/sitters?

we are thinking about trying to find someone like this for mom. she is 74 and has very limited mobility but can do most other minor tasks. tia.

Ask around about Home Health agencies. Get recommendations for a good one. Call that agency and ask for the patient care coordinator. Explain the situation of your mom to them. They know Medicaid/Medicare guidelines very well and have a list of sitters.

I have some experience with this with my mom. There are somethings they will pay for but not a lot. We had 24 hr. care for my mom and it was like 3K a month. 3 nurses rotating through out the day. The service was actually provided by the Univeristy Hospital.

Not to give unwanted advice but if she is having trouble now it might be wise to look into assisted living. There are some very nice places that offer any level of independence that she might want and if any medical emergency arises they usually have medical facilities right on-site.

I wish we would have taken that route sooner. It is a tough sell to get someone to leave the house they have lived in for 40 yrs.
