Sounds like a "limited" capo, maybe good for special effects, but not that practical(?).

I wouldn't call it a limited capo. Bar chords are quite common, so limited capo doesn't really do it. It's just a way to play some chords differently up the neck.

Very practical. Barring applies to many types of chords. Hell, half of the beginning of 'Stairway to Heaven' is barred.

yeah, it's not easy. I read the other day that Joni Mitchell gave up guitar once because of it.

Anyway, it's not too bad. Gotta have sure, strong fingers.
And yeah, Stairway started to get a lot easier once I figured that out. Still not too far with it, though, I don't have chops to do anything with it.

I had a harder time figuring out how to play an 'unbarred' F-chord. The one where the index finger pinches the top two strings. It's easy now, but ugh.

you acoustic players have it easy. Choads.

Yeah, I play F and A that way. Just less of a pain.

The neck is wider on an acoustic. How is that easier?

Not sure about that one. What somebody said about the neck and not to mention the strings are usually stiffer! Hate I just said that one. ;)
