Do you think that the apparant drafting of Peppers instead of Jammers signals a thought pattern of the Panthers? Do you think they feel they can come back in rd 2 and get a better CB than a DL had they gone Jammers instead in rd 1?

well, I'm going to ignore the expert tag but in the end I don't believe there's a thought process there that one could identify with any actual truth.

You could say that the Panthers simply thought he was the best player, hands down. I certainly do hope that's the case.

You could say he wasn't standing out, but that fan perception and/or past mistakes like Holliday over Peter pushed him beyond.

You could say that they simply couldn't get the trade down they wanted. You could say they opened negotiations to force a trade.

You could even say that they had character concerns about Peppers and in an effort to dissuade those thoughts, they decided to open contract talks with him in a hope of seeing him under duress, that they were looking for him to make an outrageous demand to match some of the rumored remarks that may or may not have happened.

I dunno. Can't say anything for sure, till tomorrow. But hopefully they made the pick at 2 without expecting that something would be there at 34. With Rumph and Sheppard expecting to be gone, IMO the CB depth is no better than DE depth, especially with Ross having so many concerns.

The Panthers are letting the fans drive who they pick. The pick of Peppers is a result of the Peter/Holliday fiasco. No one here can tell me honestly that if it was some one besides Peppers with the present combination of both questions about his play and that dreaded potential tag we'd even consider him at this point. I'll be like Peppers, if (when) they pick him I'll deal with it.

Hopefully, beginning at 34 we draft the best player that fits a need. Truthfully, the safe homer pick would be Sims. No one anywhere has a bad thing to say about him personally or his play.
I hope to God we are not drafting Aundrey Bruce II here.

    Homers?

If selecting the person most paid professionals think is the number one player on the board makes the Panthers a bunch of homers then HONK, HONK I'm a homer than too

    I can, and I will.

I'm not a Tarhill fan, could care less about taking local players. But given the choise between a great DE and a great CB, give me the DE, even with those concerns.

Having a great front 4 and a weak secondary makes you the New Orleans Saints. Having two good corners and no pass rush makes you the Atlanta Falcons.

That's why I always sided more with Peppers over Jammer. Even with all his concerns, and Jammer's relative ability.

You're right, having four top notch defenders rather than two tends to make one a better team. How many come in the box marked Peppers?
