Larry, you will get little from the "preaching service." Find a good sunday school class of peers. That is where you grow. Too many preachers have 1/2 the intelligence of the congregation and make stupid points sometimes like this guy. The preacher/minister is not the church or the purpose of church. In my class we rarely mention denomination, just study the lesson out of the book. There you can interact and tell someone you disagree, if need be.

Leave it to a stupid, egotistical preacher to stand between God and people He's trying to reach. :(

yeah, this guy likes to hear himself talk and he sounds like he's the "hip" pastor -- he can't be but about 30.

other than him, the service was ok. it was one of those where a band plays three songs and then he speaks then they play three more songs and it's over. about 90 minutes total. no communion, which was strange for me. it's not as "detatched" as a methodist service (which i grew up in) or an episcopalian service (touchy-feely catholic lite, i call it -- i went there middle school through high school).

lots of young folks in this group though. the band members were pretty young. in their 20s, i'd say. excpet for the old drummer and the old percussionist. female co-lead singer looked like she was eye-candy.

lots of young, good-looking people. but nobody was overly pushy with the, "hey, you new here? how are you?" stuff. which i loathe.

    and no offering either.

gina said the sermons were much better than this one. this guy is their regular pastor and he just got back from some conference for religious dudes or somesuch -- lots of brotherly bonding and things, he said.

anyway, i can't wait to watch queer eye tonight. i just don't like that i'll probably think of my bad experience in the church sunday while i'm watching, though.

Sounds like a contemporary Baptist or maybe a non-denominational church. Actually, it sounds a lot like the one I go to, except for the teaching on that particular Sunday.

See what he says this Sunday before you write him off completely. Everyone makes mistakes from time to time. My pastor has really blown it a couple of times in the past, then come back the next week and apologized to the whole congregation. He's cool like that. :)

what i liked about them is that they could show their true emotions and say what they wanted to. they weren't hung up on being "guys". it's truly something for us men to aspire to.
