From what I've heard the membership is getting tired of hosting an annual tournament, so either way it's done after 2014. They've been talking about trying to get a PGA championship since the tournament started. We'll see what comes of it, but I would say the odds are pretty long that they'll wind up with one anytime soon.

Right on. I played with a couple members out there and they don't want the tournament after the current contract expires.

The usga apparently wants to see Quail host a US mens, womens or mid amateur before considering an open so that is why they are courting the PGA of America. I think they would rather get in the PGA championship running or Ryder cup consideration, however Ryder Cup is a real longshot.

I bet they will get a PGA championship in the next 10 years or so. I think the next 5 have been announced already.

Why are the members tired of hosting the yearly tournament? I think it's been great for Charlotte and gives us a lot of exposure.

Great day. Furyk must have kicked it in gear as he is tied for lead. I left at 3 after being there at 7:30. Saw Solarte at 6 I believe. He was filming. Watched Phil bail his goofy ass out of several holes and Tiger being Tiger

The members there are all wealthy and don't give a shit what is good for you or Charlotte. They have limitied access to their course in the months leading up to the event then they lose access to their course the week before, two weeks during and a few weeks after for repairs. It is expensive and the entire facility takes a beating.

They will get more club recognition from one major then they will get from 20 years as a pga stop and that's all the members really want is recognition.

Almost nobody remembers that the Kemper was here for 10 years but every golf enthusiast knows where the majors were played during those 10 years.

Yeah I found out that the club basically shuts down from March through the middle of July, and that even after then the grass (transplanted for the tournament) dies and is brown until the bermuda comes back. I didn't realize exactly how much setup goes into the course for a yearly event, it's a pretty huge undertaking. That said, I wish Charlotte could step in and come to a happy medium. Tiger will still be playing in 2014 and it seems pretty short-sided to halt a yearly stop during Tiger's career. The golf enthusiast may know where all the majors are played in the last 10 years, but the sports fan knows there isn't another Tiger coming down the pike any time soon. The guy is the most recognizable athlete in the world and Charlotte is lucky to have him.

That said, I understand now why the members are upset and they likely could have Johnny Harris' job.

Had an awesome time out there this weekend and I can't wait to go back again next year.
