Well you better strart looking for another team to watch. Fasani looked pantherish in his only time against a decent D. Winky isn't going to be any worse that last year, so give it time. The first team offense went 3 and out twice for a reason. Wait till next week.

thanks, but won't be watching any other team. I would too think that Weinke would look at least as good as last season and was ready to take a big step forward. Not only has that not happened but he has looked terrible. Still hope he steps up but the recent trend is not good and meanwhile Fasani showed me a lot last night.

uh, Weinke went 3 and out once (cuz he missed a wide open bird on third down). the second time he got the ball he floated one of the ugliest passes i have ever seen for an interception. if he is not testing your patience, then you're of stronger stuff than I.

happy to wait for next week and to start Weinke. hoping for just average from him (or even slightly below average would be okay) but if he continues to totally suck i'd also be happy to see Fasani take over. meat's right. i'll be pissed and probably kill something if W continues to suck and they don't make a change before 8 games worth -- what would be the point in that? guess we could play for the top draft pick next year and set a record that would stand through the ages.

Yeah I see your point about Fasani going aganst the first team. I guess what you are saying is that if Fasani had been up aganst the big boys, he could never have anassed 1 for 3 with a total 3yards and a pick. Man that bar is high.

If this is the case as you claim, why did Fasani rally the second team in his first game. Is the second team worried about next week? NO, they should be, but they are not. It seems to me Fasani ignites the guys he plays with, something much needed around here.

QB controversies make good copy, and sometimes lights fires under asses which can be a positive thing. However, they can be destructive as well.

I'm backing the starter whoever that may be, regardless of my preferences. I suppose 3 straight bad performances (regular season) by Weinke and 3 losses against bad teams, and I'll be calling for his head too. If we are gonna win any games this year it has got to be at least the first two games seeing as how who we play. I support Weinke, and believe he's OK. But that's all, just OK. I beleive Fasani is just OK too, but with less experience. I hear all this and that about 2nd or 3rd stringers, but that has nothing to do with the scrambling ability and the on-target crisp passes which Fasani displayed in most of his performances.
Weinke seems to be well poised, mature, accurate, and runs the O OK, but what I see is a guy with a decent arm, but yet still floats (lobs) passes unless he's throwing way downfield. He still throws like a college QB, which will produce many Ints in the NFL.

My preference : I'd rather LOSE watching an exciting Fasani, than LOSE watching a boring Weinke. You have to admit, when he's on the field, the O does look more exciting, and I have'nt seen the Panther's O look exciting in all the years, with the exception of a few B-Line games like the game against the Saints while we were trying to outscore Green Bay to go to the playoffs back in 99.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that exciting losses are a lot better than boring loses.

I want a winning QB, whether he's boring or not. I hope CW can get us some wins, or he'll be second string at the most. I will support whoever is on the field regardless of my preferences.
And I won't resort to demoting someone JUST because I LIKE another guy.

I can say that I'm happy with our defence this year. It looks a lot faster than it has been in a long time, if ever. Morgan is good, and Witherspoon looked great last night. It seems Cousin is not that bad, he may not cover as well as D Evans, but it seems he tackles better than most we've had (CBs) in a long time. Overall the D does tackle better this year.

Weinke should start next week. The Ravens D should suck this year so its the perfect game for Weinke to gain some confidence and hopefully end this contrversy talk. I seriously have no desire right now to see Fasani start but Weinke needs to get things together fast!

Um did you even read my post?? It had nothing to do with Fasani per say... I was commenting on you saying 3rd string was the ONLY unit showing heart

NO doubts there. I am a big supporter of Dee Brown's (for non-football reasons) but I know he's not a threat at all. Steve Smith is not an NFL quality receiver, he's a long ball guy. This O will struggle with Moose and Walls and Steussie in there, so to say it didn't do well on two series doesn't break my heart and want to go with "the proven winner".

It does bother me that Weinke locked in on Muhammad. It does bother me that he made last year's mistake - throwing one high like it got away from him. That does make me a little mad.

Fasani made some OK plays. But his completion percentage isn't good, save game one, and he completed a good number of those on the run. It's great that he can run around and show the fans something that looks like extreme effort but it's a team game. One man running around ain't gonna get it. If Michael Vick has to learn it this kid can too. It's great to call your number time and time again if you're in a movie but that reason in itself might limit Fasani's chances until he can mature and stay in the pocket.

To me, he hasn't shown he can be an NFL quarterback. He looks like an advanced college ball QB, and it honestly wouldn't surprise me sometimes watching Fasani to see him pitch the option. He's far from polished, he's exciting, and he's not going to make half the plays he should in the pocket because he'll be crushed by the spy every team would put on him, for a minimal gain. He's not ready.
