Anyone ever listen? I can get 88.7 out of Forest City and I have become hooked. Exactly what kind of music would you call that? There is a lot of blue-grass, some sounds country, some new-age and Celtic stuff. You ever tune in? I find it relaxing to drive by. Maybe I am just getting old.

I wouldn't equate becoming more "worldly" as getting old, per se.
It's just that, maybe, you're pulling out of a/your youth funk; e.g. self/peer absorbtion. Many people that may grow up normally, still retain moronic and/or limited tastes in music/don't realize that there are growths pertaining to musics. [Don't mean too embarass anyone.] I guess music has a variety of importances.

Anyhow, I get the same variety of music on the local npr station here(and from Chapel Hill). In addition, WFSS plays much jazz.

BTW: I read in the paper the other day that there is a Congressional hearing/complaint going on, that the big radio station conglomerates are hogging the air waves, playing what they think you want to hear; more specifically the FM dial.
At one time FM was a haven for people that were looking for alternative musics, news, etc. Now, you get the same shit on FM as on AM, for the most part.

I listen to NPR in mornings when I am waking up. After that XM. Commercials and silly talk shows have driven me away

Geez Fred, I apologize for my ranting post.
You were being rhetorical, weren't you?

 No sweat Jazz. It just surpised me that I have taken a liking to that kind of music. The old bluegrass music reminds me of my childhood and spending time with my grandmother up in Mitchell County. I like getting back to my roots. My favorite is 'The World Cafe'" They play some relaxing tunes to drive by. I even like the news on 88.7; it's brief, to the point and then it's over.

PantherPaul, you've got XM? How do you like it? If you don't mind me asking, how much is it costing you, and is it worth it?

I'm not familiar with XM. Is that cable?

    Re: bluegrass
I like it; and most any kind of music where people are playing the shit out of their instruments. I appreciate the craftmanship.
