XBOX360. PS3 is currently like buying a Mac. Decent product, smaller software selection, lower percentage of the market (may affect online play for some games).

    Do you have an hdtv?

    Do you like watching movies?

Can you buy a 360 at a place like Costco where you can return it if it breaks, without buying a warranty?

If it's just for games, I'd get a 360 Premium, it's got the most games, a lot of great games, and a healthier library of cheaper, new games in their Greatest Hits catalog since it came out earlier.

The PS3 has a lot of the same great games, and for the most part look and play the same. There are a couple of exclusives on PS3 that you can't find on 360, more exclusives on the 360 that you can't find on PS3 right now. It plays HD movies (Bluray has pretty much just won that war.) HD movies look amazing on an hd-tv, but they are more expensive than dvds. The PS3 also has free online play, which equals about $50 a year on X360. It is a little more expensive than the 360, and the cheaper $400 version CANNOT play PS2 titles in any fashion.

I've got a 360 with HDMI, it's great. I'm also going to look for a 60 or 20 gig PS3 so I can have full backwards compatibility, access to the 5-10 exclusive games I may want in it's lifetime, and access to Bluray movies. As a game player though, I believe X360 is superior, and cheaper.

X360 has hardware problems, do NOT buy it at a store like Best Buy or Walmart unless you get the extended warranty. Every one has a 3 year warranty from MS for Red Rings, but there are other problems you can have that won't be covered. Plus system turnaround is about 3 weeks if you have to get it replaced from MS. I bought mine at Costco, if it ever dies I can replace it there that same day, and get a price match.

I've got both. As far as current games I've gotta say the XBOX 360, but some HUGE games coming out for PS3 this year, plus as was said, it looks like Blu-Ray just won the HD wars, so the movie player will be a big plus for it.

    solid post.

the 360 is great, but I'm just tired of the shitty quality. I've had 3 die, and will have to wait 3-5 weeks for them to send it back to me. To me, the ps3 has the same games for the most part, and is a better quality machine.

Since he's debating which one to get, I'd still say go for the 360 if you are a next gen virgin. I'm only going with the ps3 because I've grown tired of it dying all the goddamn time.
