in my mind, it really comes down to a person's definition of a choke. to me, it comes down to a team losing to an inferior team. but hey, this is baseball...where hot streaks reign supreme. look at the red sox and astros right now.

the braves are on a great run of division titles. if i go back through all of the years, i would say this about them:

1991 - Probably the closest world series in history as far as talent on each side goes. it showed as the game was decided in the bottom of the 9th in game 7. Experience may have hurt the Braves a little...as did a base running blunder by Lonnie Smith.

1992 - Whew...that one i don't remember as much. Toronto won two in a row (winning again in 1993) so it is hard to call this one a choke.

1993 - I think the Phillies were better than the Braves and so was Toronto

    1994 - Don't remind me.

    1995 - WS Champs.

1996 - Like i said earlier, you could call this a choke. Win game 4 and go up 3 games to 1 and start putting the champaign on ice.

1997 - They were the best team in baseball that year.

1998-2000 - The Yankees were by far the best team in baseball these three years. No choke there. They probably should have beaten the Padres in '98.

    2001 - Two names...Johnson and Shilling.

2002 - Anaheim was the best team in baseball in after May.

2003 - The Braves could not keep up with the pitching of the Cubs or Marlins last year.

as for Durham, he probably has another 4 years or so left. He is under contract for next year in San Fran and an option year (his option) the next. He'll be 34 (i think) when that contract is up. He should have another couple of decent years left. I will see him in San Fran later this month...i'll tell him you are keeping a spot open for him. Of course, if still lived down there, i would get you to pencil me in at 2b.

i know what I know, 12 years, one championship. the easy result and easy explanation, the ole' choke. dean smith has said to "choke", other teams, coachs have choked. Its no big deal 2-6, quit being hostile about it. its the past. it gets you no where.

:applause: yea, that doesn't make sense why he wants us to research it. We are the ones saying they choked, you prove to us they didn't! and if they didn't, what do you call it? (ive asked that 3 times now, with no answer)

do you really want me to post my thoughts? i mean, they pretty much are identical to what lawing has already said. but, since you can't offer any proof of your own, i'll give you mine.

91...we lost in game 7, in what was one of the best series ever. is losing in game 7 or the world series choking? thats what i thought, cross this one off.

92...lost 4-2 to the blue jays in the FIRST of their back-to-back world series titles. perhaps, since they won TWO in a row, they had a decent team. cross this one off frances.

93...went 104-58 in winning the west and the phillies were 97-65 winning the east. the blue jays won it all that year with a regular season record 95-67, in making it 2 in a row. those teams were all pretty balanced, so without there really being a favorite, you can cross this one off as well.

95...what a sweet season. first year for the wildcard spot, we beat the rockies 3-1, swept the reds (the same reds that swept the dodgers 3-0 in the NLDS) in the NLCS, and beat the indians 4-2 for the series.

96...i can't argue this one. they choked big-time. as lawing said, they had the back-to-back in their hands and let it get away. that is choke #1. (of course, we did sweep the dodgers 3-0 in the NLDS before that yankees shit happened)

97...swept the astros and then lost to the wildcard marlins in the NLCS. those very same marlins went on to beat the yankees in 7 games for the title. since when is losing in the semifinals to the eventual champion choking? crossing off another here.

98...swept the cubbies, then lost 4-2 to the padres in the NLCS. we had the best team that season, so i'll give ya choke #2.

99...we walked thru the national league playoffs 3-1 against the astros and 4-2 against the mets. lost again to the yankees in the series. but, since when is losing to a team that has twice your payroll choking? noone can ever be accused of choking in that situation. mark that one off your list.

00...this was the worst of all. getting swept 3-0 by the cards. that was damn near pathetic. choke #3.

01...again swept the astros in the NLDS, but then lost to the dbacks 4-2 in the NLCS. two names come to mind. schilling and johnson. oh, and they went on to win the title that year. go back to "how can it be considered choking to lose to the eventual champion". scratch this one off.

02...lost 3-2 to the giants in the NLDS in what was a tough series. oh, the giants came within a few innings of winning it all that year. one would think they had a decent team.

03...lost 3-2 to the cubbies. who, if not for reasons unknown to man and they weren't cursed, should have been playing in the series instead of the marlins. the braves were not the strongest team in the NL last season.

04...which brings me to this season. the braves will win their 13th divisional title in a row, and then if we don't win the series, you dumbasses will start screaming choke again. without ever thinking how idiotic your cries are and how jealous they make you sound.

there, i give you 3 outta 12 of those years that you can claim choke and there be validity to your claim.

so........in the last 12 years while the braves were winning divisions
---the phillies haven't seen a playoff game since beating the braves in 93
---franchises dodgers, in 2 appearances (95, 96) have went 0-6 (3 of those to the braves. the funny part tho, is 95 was the first year of the wildcard and the braves getting switched to the NL east from the NL west. if not for that, your dodgers wouldn't have got to lose those 6 games, because they would have been at home.

to all the "i cry choke" guys out there, if you made it this far (which i doubt since ya'll don't really care about facts and being proven wrong and all), let me say FUCK YOU.

:xyzthumbs time to go watch the intimidators. see ya kids.

oh, and by the way, you dont start a thread and demand us do the research. you know as soon as I bring out stats you'll bitch and switch it to the Dodgers this Dodgers that. When the Braves win as much as the Dodgers in our history and have our history and impact on the game, come to me with a real thread. BITCH.
