I fail to see the humor. Most of us were forced to belive whatever religion our parents subscribed to. Now that I'm a big boy and can make my own decisions, I may not want the same subscription. Why should there be a stigma attached to me if I dont want to be as gullible as them?

As long as you don't pretend to be a member of a specific religion in order to court voters from that religion I am ok with it. Kerry is not a catholic. He has no religion.

My point was, if Kerry doesn't agree with his church doctrine, why not call himself a Christian and leave it at that? Or if he doesn't believe in Christian doctrine, call himself an agnostic (or whatever)? To live a charade of 'being seen' at church when you don't really agree is pointless now, whereas in the past it was required for social acceptance.

Because he feels that he is catholic. He feels that the church in rome is isolated from american society as is acting in ways that are ultimately detrimental to americans. Quite frankly other christian religions leave catholics with a void that cannot be filled ultimately they all return to the mother church. However sometimes the mother is wrong.

Odd that you would know that. Y'know, since you aren't Catholic either.

Catholicism isn't like some of the other species of Christianity. You are born Catholic and remain catholic in a certain sense whether you practice or not. I am Catholic but then again I am not. That's just the way it is.

I am not a terrorist either but that does not mean I can't say that Bin Laden is one. Kerry openly embraces ideas counter to the catholic church. He is a catholic in name only, if that. I really do not see how any one can claim to be a christian and be pro choice.

As usual, strike one. Let me help.

You can feel free to criticize Kerry all you want.

But apparently the complete irony of someone who considers himself to be conservative sticking his nose into an institution THAT HE DOESN'T EVEN BELONG TO AND TRYING TO TELL IT WHAT TO DO is totally lost on you.

You want the Catholic church to act the way YOU want it to (denying Kerry - or anyone - communion) and you are not even a member of that church. If some liberal came and told you how you should run your church you would go flat out apeshit. That is downright hilarious.
