The original intent of this thread was not to argue over capital punishment but rather to point out that if you do not believe in a religion you should not call yourself a member of it.

John Kerry and many other pro-abortion politicians claim to be catholic but the catholic church is adamently opposed to abortion. He should therefore either become pro-life or become a non-catholic.

Arguing over whether abortion is wrong or right or whether being pro-life is inconsistent with being pro death penalty is not the point of this thread.

It is really pathetic to try and appeal to catholics by maintaining your church membership while not believing in the fundamentals of the church.

    Obviously.

What's pathetic is trying to use a religion for politics. Which was my entire point from the start.

Since you guys are anti death penalty because you respect life so much then you are both pro-life? It would seem to me that if you are anti death penalty then you would have to be pro life. That is the argument I am getting in reverse anyway.

If you are pro-life I can respect your argument to some degree. If you are not then I can not consider you to be intellectually honest.

In a free society it is your responsibility to try to affect politics to match your belief system, often times derived from one's religion.

    Are you pro-life?????

Being pro-life means I am for making society more free. Right now thousands of people are denied the most fundamental right there is, the right to life.

If I did not agree with Bush on more things than Kerry, yes it would. Since I disagree with Kerry on a laundry list of things I should try to get Bush re-elected, to the extent I can which is pretty much voting for him and talking to other about it.
