I gotcha but it seemed to matter some others in this thread.

As far as the catholic church recognition thing, I do not know enough about it to say. My biggest thing would be whether or not they believe the gospel that salvation is only through accepting Jesus. If they attach something to that then I would not have a part of it.

the folks at the Church of the Folding Chair hold worship service in former Dollar Store over in the Big N Plaza. some wear suits, others wear snowmobile suits, others wear speedo and tube tops. it's all very informal.

also, I hear you can bring snacks and eat during the service. the hymns are accompanied by taped music played one a boombox

Do you care more about what your daughter believes or just the fact that she has something to believe in?

That is a pretty silly question. Why have beliefs if you do not believe they are not the right ones? If all are equally valid then why bother?

He said he wanted solid religion in his daughter's life, he didn't say he wanted her to believe the same way he did.
I want a solid religion in my daughter's life. However- I was raised Baptist and don't necessarily want the same belief for my daughter as I had where she is raised to feel guilty with hellfire and brimstone sermons, making her believe that any normal thought she has is detrimental to her salvation.
So, as my beliefs have changed over time, my Mother would still have me sweating in church because I wondered about sex when I was 13.
I would rather my daughter want to go to church, want to fellowship, want to learn and grow into her own person, rather than for me to tell her how she will believe.
I also believe that no religion has it right yet for what it's worth. Yours, mine or anyone's.

I can respect the fact that you reject a portion of what you were taught as a child. Believe it or not I do that too, but probably to a lesser degree. The problem I see with your philosphy though is that you seem to not believe that anything is "the truth". I can not see why you would want to partake in a religion or encourage your child to partake if you are not fairly certain it is right atleast on a fundamental level. Most denominations around here believe in the gospel message of salvation through accepting Christ. To me any of them are basically right. They may disagree on details but they still accept what I hold as "the truth". If I thought none of them had it right then I would have a hard time partaking in it.

If you are saying you reject a portion of what you were taught as well, how can you say you have a problem with my philosophy? I have a problem with yours :) There I said it.

    I didn't say I didn't believe that.
I also said I didn't feel any religion had it just right, again- what you are saying. If I felt it was just right, I wouldn't reject any of it.
In short- I feel most denominations that I would associate with have a basic belief system I can dig on... ie... the ten commandments, love thy neighbor, be good, don't wear white shoes after labor day etc...
so, I would rather my child have that than nothing. That's all I'm saying. After all, it's between her and God and mine is between me and God, I'm just providing something for her foundation. She can work out the particulars as she grows, that's what it's all about. I don't think God will keep me out of heaven if I don't know how many children Abraham ended up with, but that's just me.
Now, Happy Birthday and run along and open your card from G.W.B.

    :D That was hateful.
