That is something you will need to resolve in your own way. The Catholic church has seemed to do some pretty horrific things down through history. But that doesn't mean the 'whole' church is evil. I think there are a lot of good faithful catholics. That's sorta like saying America is evil just because you don't like the president and his administration.

i understand that there will be more catholics in heaven than anyone else. priests are generaly decent people. but the holy church ain't holy, imnsho. this is kind of a big deal for me.

I was told "Catholic" in the creed meant "Universal"

I was raised very Calvinistic, but now I'm not so sure about the predestined thing.

Bill, I was raised in the Methodist church and I've always stayed there because it's where I'm comfortable worshipping. I can wear jeans or shorts if I want to, and that's big for me. I don't know if you can wear jeans to MPPC, I haven't been there for service but I've been to several choral events there.

The word "catholic" is not capitalized. As I said, this creed was in use long before the protestant reformation. Most believe it was developed shortly after the death of Jesus, while the apostles were still alive. The "C"atholic church didn't begin until after the death of Peter.

Lots of baptist churches have no problems with wearing jeans to church. One of the ushers at my church wears them sometimes.

    :trophy: :agreed:

That bit about 'catholic' in the Apostle's Creed bothered me, too, for a very long time until I heard about it being a reference to the Christian church as a whole.

If you have a problem with any part of your wife's church's doctrine or practice(s), talk to her about it. Talk to the church leaders about it. They should be able and willing to give you answers.
